Hi Everyone;

I'm coming back to MythTV (KnoppMyth V4R4 to be exact...) after a year or so of working with Windows PVR programs, so I've forgotten more than I've retained about Linux. For that reason, please consider me a complete noob at linux! =)

I installed KnoppMyth on my PIII/450 with an ATI TV-Wonder card. After a while spent getting DataDirect working (I have it working now and have full listings) I'm having trouble with the tuning on my ATI TV card. I have the settings in MythTV-Setup set to NTSC, but I'm getting black and white picture, off by 1 channel, etc. I've read in the myth forums that this can be due to it not being recognized correctly in the setup, and possibly being thought of as a different device or tuner.

In reading some posts, they suggested, running as root:
rmmod bttv
insmod bttv card=63 tuner=2

but that didn't make any difference.

What's the proper way in KnoppMyth to verify that the TV card is being recognized properly and is set to NTSC? And from there how do I modify modules.conf or whatever to make the change stick? (modules.conf has a large warning to not modify that file directly)

Thanks for any and all help!!!

-Andy.

The same way you'd verify in any other Linux distro:
Code:
dmesg | grep bttv

Specify what card and tuner you have in /etc/mythtv/modules/bttv
Read the forum for more...

BTW: Your CPU isn't fast enough to watch live TV...

Thanks for your quick reply!

Sorry - I don't want you to have to try and teach me Linux, but I'm pretty lost in using it.

I tried the dmesg | grep bttv command, and it said that my card was 63 and tuner was 2, so that seems correct.

There's only one line in /etc/mythtv/modules/bttv:
alias char-major-81 videodev

If you think I need to add a line to that file, what should it read? I couldn't find anything in the forum that relates to this problem...

That's interesting that you say my computer's not fast enough. It was fast enough to watch live tv on Myth a year ago... Does the program have higher requirements now?

Thanks again for your help!

-Andy.

Then you didn't search long enough. Perhaps looking under the hardware tiers. Did you search for all terms mythtv module? Perhaps searching for posts by me... Yes, I do say search the forum a lot, this is because in the answers are in the forum.

Correct as always. Better search terms lead to better results!

Would this be considered a bug then in that it seems the install doesn't detect the ATI TV-Wonder card?

No. While bttv tries to detect the correct card, some times it doesn't. I suspect this won't be the case it manufactuers were providing better information about thier cards.
