Well, I downloaded the V3 iso last night in and attempt to get past an APIC issue. (of course this required me to move some CD-RW drives around between PCs)

- Well, I put the R4V3 disk in and power up.
- I get the grey KnoppMyth boot screen and hit enter.
- Boot process starts text starts flowing onto a black terminal
- The PC hangs (very quickly into the process) .

The last things on the screen are

Code:
<penguin image>
Ide: late registration of driver
Welcome to Knoppmyth Linux CD!
Accessing KnoppMyth CDROM at /dev/scd0
Setting paths.....

At this point I have flashing lights on my keyboard and the only thing I can do is power down.

I have confirmed that the BIOS sees the disks.

I have also confirmed that I can still boot form my R4V2 iso disk.

EDIT:
EDIT: I have verifided the MD5 checksum as valid....however when retrying, I noticed an initial message...I have added the first lines to the
code listing above. what is the 'Ide' message?

Well, while the MD5 was valid, the writing of the ISO to the disk was bad...infact, after 2 more write attempts....I found that I needed to slow down the CD-W to create a valid CD.

i have installed R4V3. I have everything working but sound

once that is displayed, PC locks up and keyboard light flashes.

Well, Ive tried moving my PCI boards around with no success.

So I tried booting with a 'noquiet' option...Im not sure if that makes any sense but it did produce some more output.

towards the end, this is what I see....

Code:
Partition Check
   hda: hda1 hda2 hda3 hda4

---- snip some networking/tcp stuff

hda7: bad access block=2 count=2
end_request: I/O error dev 03:07 (hda) sector 2
EXT2-fs: unable to read superblock

kernal panic: VFS: unable to mount root fs on 03:07

seems odd to me to be accessing hda7

well sorry would help, but I've never experienced the problem you are having and I don't see anything in the info you've given that gives me a clue.

can anyone tell me what exactly it executing when the 'Setting Paths....' message is displayed. I assume its attempting to buiild hardware paths to the various components in the box.

is there any way to boot V3 (maybe some kinda 'expert' mode) so I can manually execute what the script is trying?

Anyone else having similar issues, since my last post I have been able to install debian and reinstall knoppmyth (again).

thanx.

It is making the directories /cache and /myth and the subdirectories below then. Boot from the CD, chroot and rm -fr /home/mythtv/.configure. You can take a look at the mkmythdir script to see what directories are created.

I know that this post is very old, but I’ve had the same problem with R4V5. The problem was solved when I’ve reburned the ISO.
