With the help of several messages here I (a noob to Linux and MythTV) got KnoppMyth installed and the internet portions working (XMLTV, Weather, News) but when I select to Watch TV, I get a total blank screen. I've tried a couple of different NVidia video boards (MX400 and an older TNT something I think) while using a ATI TV Wonder VE. Right now I'm using my computer monitor until I get a different video card with TV Out. How do I determine if the TV tuner card is even working? I see it is recognized on bootup by MythTV as a BT878. I've gone through the NVidia driver update but that caused the screen to go blank on bootup without ever getting to the MythTV screen. Do I have to change the tuner type or is there some other settings I need to change??

I'm at a loss as to what to even look for next so any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm sure someone here has some ideas for me to check. Thanks.

Steve

You can exit MythTV, start and xterm and run xawtv to determine if the tuner is working...

Thanks for the quick response. I ran xawtv the I'm seeing TV in black and white. Output to xterm from launching xawtv shows:

This is xawtv-3.88, running on Linux/i686 (2.4.21-xfs)
Warning: Cannot convert string "-*-ledfixed-medium-r-*--39-*-*-*-c-*-*-*" to type FontStruct
Xlib: extension "XFree86-DRI" missing on display ":0.0".
v4l: timeout (got SIGALRM), hardware/driver problems?
ioctl: VIDIOCSYNC(int=0): Interruppted system call
ioctl: VIDIOCMCAPTURE(frame=0;height=32;width=48;format=4): Device or resource busy
ioctl: VIDIOCMCAPTURE(frame=0;height=32;width=48;format=5): Device or resource busy
ioctl: VIDIOCMCAPTURE(frame=0;height=32;width=48;format=1): Device or resource busy
ioctl: VIDIOCMCAPTURE(frame=0;height=32;width=48;format=7): Device or resource busy
ioctl: VIDIOCMCAPTURE(frame=0;height=32;width=48;format=13): Device or resource busy
ioctl: VIDIOCMCAPTURE(frame=0;height=32;width=48;format=15): Device or resource busy
no way to get: 128x96 16 bit TrueColor (LE)

I guess that says something about why it's b/w?? I currently have the older TNT video card installed. I think it has 16MB or ram. I assume that should be enough for TrueColor at this resolution?? But I can put the MX400 (64MB) back in if that helps. Sorry for the newbie 'walk-thru my problem' request, but do you have any ideas on what to try next? Thanks so much.

Steve

I would be looking at the tvcard setup. make sure that the bttv driver is using the proper card# I think there are some posts on the forum about the ati tvwonder and what the option line should be.
