Hello,

I installed knoppmyth R4V5 with Hauppage PVR-350.
My mouse (PS/2, with a scroolling wheel) freezes in fvwm desktop randomly. I wasn't able to find any pattern, but unplugging and replugging will produce the same problem.
Usually after the mouse hangs, I can't type in xterm.
If I use Ctrl-Alt-F1 to go to the console and afterwards Ctrl-Alt-F7 to return to the desktop, the mouse would be OK again (until the next freeze ).

Any idea of how to solve the problem?
Thanks in advance,

GR

I'm guessing a flakey mouse or mouse port. BTW -- unpluggnig and plugging a PS/2 mouse will freeze up on most boxes and mice. PS/2 is not hot pluggable. If anything glitches the communications on the port, you get frozen mouse syndrome. I'd normally suggest trying a USB mouse but that is known to cause boot freezes with KnoppMyth on some systems (like mine).

Thank you for your help.
I tried a USB mouse but it causes freeze at boot.
I'll try to get another PS/2 mouse.

The easy answer is don't use a USB mouse or use the US to PS-2 adapter many come with. I'm not being flippant here. Mice are CHEAP and a KnoppMyth system doesn't really need one except for maintenance stuff. Buy a $10 PS-2 mouse and never work about the problem again. Better still, order something like this IR keyboard with a pointing device built in for under $20.

I plan to pick up a PS2 mouse from work we have a box of like 100 or so just collecting dust. By modifiy my BIOS settings I was able to work thru the boot crash but then the mouse is unresponsive.
