Good evening everyone,

I am looking for help installing KnoppMyth on a Shuttle SK41G with a PVR-250 installed. I hope to contact others who have been successful (or at least moreso than I've been). Sorry if my question(s) have been covered elsewhere, but I've been exhaustively seraching for days with mixed luck and now I'm really stuck.

So far I've been able to at least see the graphic environment. This was after editing the XF86config-4 file to support the ProSavage8 chip by including the following line:

Option "NoUseBios"

Otherwise, my monitor would trip-out. Luckily, this was covered before.

Beyond that stage, I've been able to get part ways into the rest of the setup. I've done steps 1-3 in the mythtv-setup as well as 'apt-get update' and 'apt-get install xmltv' from the command promt.

However, in step "4. Input Connections" I get a segmentation fault. with the error of "Couldn't open /dev/video0 to probe its inputs." right above it. I assume this is related to the poroblem.

Now, I will say that during bootup, I notice two related lines:
"Found Internext Compression Inc iTVC15...."
and
"Failed to open /dev/video0..."

So, it's finding the board, but not setting it up as a video device? I'm not sure what to do with that information. Perhaps something to do with ivtv?

I hope I've provided enough information to job someone's memory, as I haven't seen this hardware configuration mentioned recently I did see that some like mcdrama were successful with this hardware setup over a year ago, as evidenced in a Tier 2 thread.

BTW, of those who have gotten this setup to run has anyone gotten overscan to work for viewing a tv? The last I heard (again, older posts), it wasn't supported.

Thank you for your time. -Gary

ps. Is it natural to scream at your computer? You see, I'm new to linux. :) Got a machine in the corner running gentoo though, so I guess an old dog can learn new tricks. That's why I -thought- I was ready for KnoppMyth.

Gary: What version of Knoppmyth are you installing? The new version (R5) requires you to make a modules update to get the ivtv driver loading - just follow the directions for the right command. Also, make sure you have selected the MPEG2 or PVR250 card as your video device.

To check to see if you ivtv drivers are loaded you can type the following:

less /var/log/messages | grep "ivtv"

Good luck...

Can you please help explain what you mean by R5 requires a "modules update" How is this done? can you point to another post with some info?

I just installed R5V10 and have not been able to get ivtv loaded yet and I can not configure inputs in the mythtv-setup.

Thanks,
Steve

I would really appreciate if you could give me some hints on how to find your posts related to the alpha releases. I did a search on you as author and looked through some of the posts but did not find any specificly targeted towards updating modules with alpha's or R5. I know it is bothersome to have to repeat yourself but if you can just help a little by pointing me the right place search. Or what search string to use?

Try under "announcements"... Also Cesman == Cecil your friendly neighborhood moderator. Just in case that's not a big enough clue:

Just wanted to say thanks for all the feedback on my issue. I haven't been able to work on the box recently due to time being suddenly consumed on other stuff, but still wanted to touch base to say I appreciate the help. Hopefully I'll be back on this project early next week. -Gary

I would also like to say thanks. I did find the announcment and I did succeed with # modprobe ivtv and then adding ivtv to /etc/modules.

This got ivtv loaded and my tuner detected, however I still can't get any tv. I am now trying to get ivtv-fb going but having lots of problems with that and trying to follow lots of posts on that topic. Basicly when I load ivtv-fb my system breaks and locks up, I think about the time X starts.

Any way thanks for the helpful pointer to the announcment.

Steve
