KnoppMyth R5A10
Tyan Thunder K8W S2885
Dual AMD64 Opteron 248
Gigabyte FX5200
Hauppauge WinTV PVR 250 - MODEL 980
(PS/2 keyboard - as I've read USB won't work)

I just installed R5A10. Everything seemed to install fine. But after the reboot, the system hangs. I get past POST, LILO and the framebuffer DMESG screen scrolls by until the hang. Here's a link to the screenshot:

It looks like it is in the Hotplug section and PCI. One time I was able to catch a glimpse of an error earlier in the DMESG about bus/something/PCI, but it goes by too fast to catch the exact wording.

I did the install with a USB keyboard, but after I read about problems with hanging on boot, I switched to an old PS/2 keyboard. Do I need to re-install using the PS/2 keyboard?

Any thoughts?

Thanks,
Greg

No, you don't need to reinstall. Remove cards/disable options in the BIOS to see if it boots.

Hmmm, I only have the 5200 (AGP) card and the WinTV PVR 250 card (PCI). I can only remove the PVR-250 (I need the 5200 for video), but that defeats the purpose of the box.

Any BIOS options in particular I should look at - right now everything is default settings.

Thanks again,
Greg

Plug and Play. Try the 250 in another slot. Modify lilo.conf and append noacpi.

I tried a bunch of combinations of BIOS settings and adding noacpi to the append section of /etc/lilo.conf. All to no avail. Then I pulled out the 250, and voila, it worked. My problem is that the 250 can only fit in 1 slot on the motherboard due to the way it is keyed. the other slots are 64-bit (http://www.tyan.com/products/html/thunderk8w.html). Hmmm, this is not good. Any other ideas?

Thanks,
Greg
