Thanks guys!!! My mythtv with PVR 350 has been working great. Maybe I'll post what I did to help others get by some of the "little" problems I encountered :).

Well now I have my working Mythtv, and just could not help but buy the Media MVP when it went down in price at Circuit City for $59.99. Problem is, the MVP does not like the .nuv extensions of the files created by Mythtv. Is there any way to have Mythtv automatically name the recordings with a different extension like mpg? I was able to play the files on the MVP once I renamed them manually.

You can use the "pretty" script which changes the extension to .mpg(right?). Then just share the directory via Samba.

Is the pretty script the one located in:
/usr/src/kernel-soue-2.4.21-xfs/include/config/aic79xx/reg/pretty?

And will using this to change the extensions from .nuv to .mpg allow Mythtv to still find the recording under /myth/tv?

No that is not the script I'm referring to...It was posted on here several weeks back. MythTV does find .mpg under /myth/tv. You share the directory via Samba and the MVP find them. I don't have a MVP nore do I use 'pretty' so i cannot give exact details.

I have been researching some of these today - need badly. Can u tell me if once the script is run if it voids the connection from the MythDatabase to the files or if it is still all in synch with simply better filenames?

I am hoping it just cleans up the filenames.

Thanks for the link...

A little more reading - this is just creating "shortcuts" "links" correct. Anything out there for making the filename changes as well for transport to an XP network - I could seriously use something like this.

Or am I mis-understanding?

Thanks again..

No you are right...This creates the "shortcuts". To share the file w/ XP(ack ;)) you need to configure Samba. R4V2 has the "pretty" script and Samba configured.

Yes, looks like this is only creating symbolic links kolemieux . I bet the script could be altered to actually copy the files with the new file names to an xp machine, but unless your looking to view the files outside of your network, why not just click on the symbolic links to view the files.

U hit it - thats what I am likely to do (and do now with some of my other PVR apps) pull the files off for mobility. Kinda a long story but if anyone has any pointers thx very kindly.

Appreciate this thread as well - let me know if anyone has the naming process as well?
