I am very close, at least I believe I am.

KnoppMyth R4v2 Autoinstall
P4S8X mobo at 2 ghz
256 MB ram
SB Live
Phoebe TV Master (CPH060)
Nvidia GEForce 4 MX 440
SMC PCI Card (Tulip)

Watch TV gives me a mostly green screen with the top quarter flashing different color patterns. I am not sure if the card type was setup correctly or not. I have dinked with the /etc/mythtv/modules/bttv file. There are other files as well.

bttv0 bttv1 bttv2 bttv3 ivtv ivtv0 ivtv1 ivtv2 and ivtv3.

How should these be set? Or am I looking in the wrong place.

Here is what my /etc/mythtv/modules/bttv file has:

alias char-major-81 videodev

Should there be more in there?

Don't touch the other files. Do you know if this card is supported by Video for Linux? Take a look at: /usr/src/linux/Documentation/video4linux/bttv/CARDLIST

Yes it is. It is shown as card # 58. I don't know what to set the tuner type to though.

Perhaps looking at Tier 2 in the hardware section will give you ideas. Do you know the tuner type? Take a look at the card. If you cannot figure it out, set it to zero. If you end up having stablity issues, it maybe be an incorrect tuner type...

Cesman,

I have been reading all I can on this forum, and others. I have had this card working in other ditros before, so I am sure it will work. I just have to find the magic settings. I am currently doing a new install, and see if there is anything I missed. One other question, with my Gedforce 4 card, should I select XVMC? I didn't select this before, could this be part of the problem?

Thanks

XvMC only comes into play if you have a hardware MPEG card. It does have anything to do with the tuner but rather helps to off load the CPU.

Well, Same as above. New install same green screen with noise at top. Perhaps I should try changing tuner types until I hit on one that works?

did you look at the whole cardlist file? it list the card numbers then after that it should list the tuners, and I believe what card they work with, not sure about that though been a while since I looked at it.

I wouldn't recommend this... I've already recommended the course of act that I'd take.

Ok, I put an old Hauppauge WinTV card in there and it works great, except that it has only mono audio. I think the problem lies in that it is not detecting my Phoebe card correctly. The cardlist says this card is supported, and I have used it before in other linux distributions. I did find on the card the tuner type which is a Temic. It says front end 4032 FY5. On the back of the card is CPH060.

From the card list:

card=58 - Phoebe TV Master Only (No FM)

type=6 - Temic NTSC (4032 FY5)

What do I need to do to force bttv to use this at boot time?

Thanks for all your help. I got it. I added this to /etc/mythtv/modules/bttv file and ran modules-update.

options bttv card=58 pll=1 tuner=6

Now to make sure the sound and everything else is working.
