First of all, I want to say that KnoppMyth is fantastic!
I've managed to get working most of the features, but I'm stuck with the channel grabbing.

Since I live in Argentina, i don't have any XML listing of the channels of my cable company (or at least i couldn't fine one).
So i'm not clear about the procedure for finishing the setup, since in option 4, I must select one tv grabber, but obviously none of them work for me.
In the instructions of Mythtv (section 9.4) i found that i should use mythfilldatabase --manual to sort this problem. But when I run this command, I get :

There are no channel sources defined, did you run the setup program?

So, I figured out that I must choose one video source and then bind it to my television input connection.
But as I already said, none of the XMLTV grabber listed work for me. Just to test, I selected the germany grabber, and then I run again the mythfilldabase --manual command, with the following output :

QTime::setHMS Invalid time 28:00:00.000
QDate::setYMD: Invalid date 2935-93-02
----------------- Start of XMLTV output -----------------
nice: tv_grab_de: No such file or directory
------------------ End of XMLTV output ------------------
QTime::setHMS Invalid time 28:00:00.000
QDate::setYMD: Invalid date 2935-93-02
Failed to fetch some program info

Sorry if this is a trivial thing, but it's been days of searching and I couldn't find a solution to this. So, the formal question should be: How is the procedure to configure Mythtv if there aren't any tv grabbers available from my location.?
As a second issue, I can only see one channel with Watch TV (I change the channel number, but the same channel is shown)... but I think that maybe this problem is related to my previous problem, since I didn't configured correctly the channels list yet. I'm correct?

Thank you very much for your help.

Mariano

I'm having the same questions here for Switzerland. Frequencies for europe-west are fine. Starting knoppix 3.4 live CD and doing some tests using xawtv showed me, that it's working. I could add some channels and watch live TV.

What's needed for MythTV is to figure out what frequencies table of MythTV (i.e. europe-west?) best matches the one of your provider in Argentina. Then you need to map them together.

Example: in europe-west frequency table there's a channel E12. My provider calls this K12, the station ID is "SF1". In MythTV you need to specify channel E12 to watch "SF1"... plus maybe some adjustements (fine tuning).

However, here I got the same question: how to tell this mythTV-0.12 (the version delivered with R4)? I see 4 options:

a) you find a working tv_grab_xyz and can use mythfilldatabase

b) you find a tool generating a XMLTV-compatible file and can make use of mythfilldatabase --file

c) you need to enter data manually in your mysql database called mythconverg (don't ask me what tables are relevant, I'm going for option d))

d) you update to myth-0.14 and make use of the new channel editor

For d), see http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=629

Hope this helps you a bit. However, my knowledge on MythTV and what's around that is just at a beginners stage. My box isn't up and running yet... but I'm on the way, step-by-step.

:D :D :D KnoppMyth and MythTV are really great and fantastic :D :D :D

Thanks for your response.
Definitely I will use option d) too. But again I have some problems.

Should I create previously a source input, even if I will not use a tv grabber and enter the channels manually?

Because if I create a source input, I must choose a tv grabber (there is not a "none" option on this), and when I run the mythfilldatabase command, again I get errors.

Could you be so kind to give me a detailed "step-by-step" description of the procedure to set up this part of the configuration ?

Thanks in advance,

Mariano

You're welcome...

BTW, I forgot to mention: if you're installing from scratch I recommend you to use R4V2! MythTV-0.14 is already included there... will make things a bit more easier :wink:

Yes, you should create a source input (you mean Video source, don't you?), because in the channel editor of MythTV-0.14 you will have to specify it. It worked for me, although my setup & config isn't finished yet. Maybe I'm completely wrong now, when I say you could ignore mythfilldatabase and its errors you get because of the missing / not working tv_grab_xyz. Someone please correct me, I'm not really sure about this one!

Just install R4V2 as described in
Code:
http://hust.la/KnoppMyth/
. You can download it at
Code:
ftp://ftp.rdt1.org/From/KnoppMyth/r4v2/

Then, after the first reboot, mythtv-setup starts. Answer the 2 questions with "yes" and walk through the 5 setting steps (1. general, 2. Capture cards, 3. Video sources, 4. Input connections, 5. Channel Editor).

In the Channel Editor choose <new channel>, then give it a Channel name (i.e. CNN) and below a Channel number (i.e. 1). Right of the Channel number you should specify the Video source you defined just before in setting step 3). Click on "next" and enter the Frequency ID (i.e. SE14) of the channel you want to add. Maybe you'll need to finetune it.

That's it. Just do it like that for each channel you want to. You can run mythtv-setup later and answer the 2 appearing questions with "no".... only there the channel editor is available.

BTW: would be nice if the channel editor was available from within mythtv-frontend... let's say, somewhere in the TV settings?

Thank you very much!

I followed your instructions and I could add all channels.

My problem was that I didn't fill the Freqid field (instead of that I was using the frequency in hz, but didn't work), and also I realized that I didn't need to run mythfilldatabase command after that.

Again, thanks for your help!.
