folks,

I am so close, I think I could see the goal if it weren;'t for all these trees...;)

I have a PVR-350 with a manually built Myth 0.14 on a KnoppMyth distribution. I have XFree running on the hardware out channel of the PVR-350. The backend is running without errors and the front end works over the h/w out channel. I have 9 days worth of channel data. Looks great!

I've also followed the TvOutHowTo and have been able to make mpg files that I can watch with mplayer. Color test is fine, I can use dd and pipe video from /dev/video to /dev/video16 and watch TV.

My prolem is that when I use the Mythfrontend and push 'Watch TV' the screen goes blank for about 10 secs and then returns to the Myth menu.

I am wondering what's wrong? I though it might be a permissions issue, so I checked the /dev/fb0, fb0current, fb0autoconfig and made them world rw. I am stumped. Before I go wading into the code can any body help point me in the right direction?

Thanks. Great effort BTW. My compliments to the chef(s).

Whoa,

I think when I upgraded to version 0.14 that it's default locations are different that those used by KnoppMyth. When I stared to look at the logs, I saw Mysql errors like 'unknown field'.

To wit I have two mythbackends:

/usr/bin/mythbackend
/usr/local/bin/mythbackend

root@mythtv:/home/pstav# ll /usr/local/bin/mythbackend
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 344828 Feb 11 22:54 /usr/local/bin/mythbackend
root@mythtv:/home/pstav# ll /usr/bin/mythbackend
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 3540764 Oct 29 01:33 /usr/bin/mythbackend

I am betting once I get this all sorted out, things will start working better...

I try not to answer my own posts..

Will do. Things are working much better! Now it's just turn the crank on all the IR stuff.

Thanks again,

The reason for the black screen (with sound) is that the alpha blend is set on the wrong fb device. (myth 0.14 & ivtv 1.9)

In the new knoppmyth release /dev/fb0autodetect has minor nr 1 which myth expects for /etc/fb1.

See the dmesg: Warning: Remapping obsolete /dev/fb* minor 32 to 1

/dev/fb1 is minor nr 32

To solve this delete /dev/fb0autodetect and /dev/fb1 and create a new fb1:
mknod /dev/fb1 c 29 1
chmod 666 fb1
chown video fb1

This got my output back....
good luck,
\wim.
