I have KnoppMyth R4V2 installed on my machine. For video I am using a Hauppauge PVR-350 with X displayed through the Tv-out composite connector. My X config is a slightly modified version of the example in /etc/X11/XF86Config-4.pvr350-tvout.sample.

MythTv will play live tv and recorded tv just fine. However, when I try to play a .avi (divx or xvid) through the video plugin it tries to load the file and then kicks me directly back to the myth menu without playing any of the file. The same thing happens with DVDs (unencrypted).

This is mplayer, right?

Mplayer appears to work properly. If I get a shell on the myth box and export my DISPLAY to my laptop, it will play files just fine. If I am in a shell on the myth box and I export DISPLAY=:0.0 I get audio, but nothing appears on the tv screen or on the monitor.

Is it possible to get mplayer to play out the composite connector of the PVR-350?

MPlayer must be patched in order to used the 350's output. The patch is floating around somewhere, you'll have to Google or check the ivtv archive for it...

The patches (there are two) are against mplayer 1.0pre2 or 1.0pre3. KnoppyMyth R4V2 is running mplayer 0.92-3.3.2 from a package.

Chris Kennedy's:

and Kevin's:

Discussions are here:

It appears that people are having a better time with Kevin's patch as it doesn't demux the audio/video streams.

Will it break anything if I download the mplayer 1.0pre3 source then patch, compile, and install it over the older version?
