Hey, all. I'm trying to install KnoppMyth on my laptop to get familiar with it before I buy hardware for my "real" myth boxen. The thing is, I want to be able to dual boot and my Win XP installation has its own partition. When I try to install KM, I can't create more than 4 partitions total, which means I can't dual boot. Is there any way to tell KnoppMyth to use one filesystem for the / and /myth directories?

You can do a manual install and just create one partition and a swap. Don't count on being able to upgrade, but I guess you just want to play at this point...

Okay, I've made my partitions and rebooted from the CD again. I'm confused by steps 2-4 of the manual installation section. Do load config, configure installation and start installation translate to edit /KNOPPIX/knoppmyth, save it to a writable location and run the installation program using the new config file?

If so, what is the command for starting the installation?

Probably the best solution here would be to just use the plf debs for mandrake 10 and install that. much easier to setup in this setting. One question though, Does your laptop have a tv tuner card (the obvious answer would be no, but I have to ask)? Without a card you can't really do much..

Plf debs? I don't even know what that means. I assume debs is short for debian and I thought mandrake was another Linux distro. That's as much of that sentence as I can parse. :)



You are correct, it doesn't have a tuner. But there are lots of things I want to do with it that don't require a tuner. I may not even add one for quite a while. I have two ReplayTVs that do a fine job of converting my satellite signal into MPG's on my PC's hard drive and they have a decent program guide/interface. Once I have Myth up and running I can start figuring out how to import the files from Replay, other MPG's I have laying around, my MP3s, and maybe get roms for mame. In the process I might discover that my laptop makes a decent frontend. But other than that I really can't do much. :)
