I'm planning for setting up a MythTV box. I know that there are, or at least were, some quirks for installing MythTV in Europe (no "channel numbers") and especialy The Netherlands (some special XMLTV scraper).

Can anybody tell me if it would be easier to just install MythTV by hand, than it would be to override all sorts of automatic settings made by MythKnopp? And will an auto-update of next version revert back all settings I made?

Please note that I know how to compile a kernel, it's just that I never setup barebone Debian all by myself, only Knoppix, which is easy. Full distro install seems overkill to me, and I already run a Knoppix hdinstalled system.

[edit]found out that the pundit uses the nForce2 chipset, is this supported by the 'stock' MythKnopp kernel? (and what about saa7134 for the Cinergy 600?)[/edit]

btw, does MythKnopp (or the Debian packages) contain MythTV versions optimized for the different processors?

btw2, the installation guide would be easier to read if not all text would be centered...

--wannabe system specs--
Asus Pundit
Celeron 2.0-2.4
Cinergy 600
Maxtor 120GB 8MB cache w/ liquid bearings

KnoppMyth doesn't make any automatic settings that you cannot change. You can backup your setting, upgrade then restore your settings. Folks have reported using the Pundit w/ KnoppMyth w/o any issue. The kernel isn't patched for saa7134(R5 is)or you can patch R4. Package for i586 and i686 exist.

Okay, thanks for the info. Took some time to check back though. I've got a lot of other MythTV related questions, but I think it's better to ask those on the mythtv-user list.

I found this old post regarding the saa7134 chipset of the Cinergy 600 TV card. Cesman, you mentioned that there are (binary ?) packages available. Where can I find them?

I looked at http://bytesex.org/v4l/ but they have only sources for kernel 2.4.22 and above. http://bytesex.org/debian.html mentions that packages are available on debian mirrors. I can't find any packages including saa7134 other then kernel-2.6.3 though.

I am using Knoppmyth R4V2.

I don't recall every stating that binary packages exist for the saa7134.
