:? I just setup a box with Knoppmyth 4V2 on an a7n8x-vm and I can't get the listings.

:D I can ping web addr's with both name and IP, so i seem to have the DNS server set right.

:( But when I try to go to a website with Lynx, it tries to load the HTTP and just sits there.

I am using the onboard nic and the other machines on the network (All Windows machines) can browse the web.

BTW: I did two clean auto-installs, and tried two diff DNS servers with the same results.

Any ideas or help would be great!
Thanks,

Gomma

I know this wouldn't affect lynx so it may not be your problem, but have you gotten the update for xmltv?

His version of XMLTV should be ok... Is it one site that lynx cannot get to or any site? If this is lynx related(that is certainly the way you presented it)...Why is this in installation?

well he said he just used lynx as a test to see if he had connectivity, and it didn't work, but the big issue is not pulling channel data, which is why I looked at xmltv.

Another question. Did you use dhcp or did you setup your network config manually? If you did it manually make sure you have proper dns entries.

Sorry if this post is in the wrong forum. I put it here because the install is failing at the listings retrieval.

I used lynx to show the behavior I was seeing. I can resolve by Domain name and IPs but I cannot browse the web, which is why, I think, I can't get the listings.

I cannot browse to any site, I have tried google.com and many others.

I was hoping someone had seen this before and could help me.

Thanks,

Gomma

You should have posted this in the first place... Do you have some sort of firewall that is perhaps blocking http?

The reason I tried lynx was because I couldn't get "apt-get update" to connect to any servers. I was trying to update xmltv.

I have tried two DNS IPs and both allow me to ping by name ("ping www.google.com") and by IP. One DNS IP is what I am using on this Windows XP box on the same network and it works fine for browsing.

I cannot browse to any website I have tried and I have tried several.

All my machines are behind the same Debian firewall on the same network. They all work except the Knoppmyth on the a7n8x-vm box.

I did a manual IP config using the same numbers I used before to setup Knoppmyth on an HP 366 to test Knoppmyth. I just build a new faster box and now the browsing doesn't seem to work.

I say double check your firewall rules and try another IP. Do you have a DHCP server? If you'd have posted in greater detail when you started this thread, we'd have a better understanding of the problem. I wouldn't have asked if this belongs in installation. The more detail posted(I'm not saying post a novel ;) ) the quicker someone can provide a recommendation to solve the problem.

:D I found out what was the problem.

I booted off the latest Knoppix (3.3 2-9-04) and it said the built-in nic has a bad MAC address, and it generated a new one.

Knoppmyth doesn't do this yet, hopfully in the next release it will.

I threw in a nic and disabled the onboard one. Now it works fine.

Thanks for the help,

Gomma!
