I have the following setup:

Asus A7n
Thunderbird 1.2ghz (200mhz FSB)
512 MB SDRAM
PVR -250 tv in
Matrox G200-TV (tv out and in)
160GB Seagate HDD

First off, Kudos to the developers for saving me gobs of time setting this stuff up. However, I've hit a wall!

Knoppmyth installs just fine and i get video in from the PVR - 250. However when I try to compile matroxset (necessary to get framebuffer out from the G200!) the compile fails.

Looking into this further. When I run fbset, it gives me frame buffer info for only the VESA Frame buffer, not the matrox frame buffer. This could be the problem. The code for matroxset seems to indicate that ioctl is probing the frame buffer where the compile fails (line 101 i believe). A post on some other message board mentions that VESA Frame buffer support in the kernel can conflict with Matrox frame buffer support.

Therefore, I tried configuring the kernel, on checking unnecessary frame buffer support, including VESA Fb. Compiling the kernel the Debian way fails somewhere compiling modules. Compiling the kernel the traditional way works, but my new kernel appears to be igonred. Syslog seems to indicate that the old kernel is being used, can''t figure it out! (Not a complete noob, i'm more used to the FreeBSD way of doing things!)

I've done matrox FB on other linux systems no problems, is there something different how the kernel is setup here?

Anyways, I would like to know the following:

*Has anyone gotten Matrox FB TV-out working with knoppmyth, how?

*Is there a good (and cheap) PCI TV-out card that would be better/easier?

*What are the special steps to configure/compile/install kernel with knoppmyth?

*I can get a hold of a voodoo3 tv out, but will I have any less trouble?

I would give more detail logs, but I gave up for now and installed the much inferior winxp/sagetv setup for temporary PVR use for the fiance'.

thanks,
mjk

1. Don't have one...
2. I'm happy with my nVidia Geforce 4 440
3. Compile it the way one normally would with any Linux distro.
4. Don't know...
