I'm getting most of the details worked out, but I'm having a fit with the xserver starting when I use the XF86Config-4 file for the pvr350 tvout 9the sample provided. It starts just fine w/ the default config (but no tv out).

The issue is that it doesn't seem to like the frame buffer.

the error is:
(EE) open /dev/fb1: No such device
(EE) No devices detected

Fatal server error:
No screens found

The frame buffer is set correctly (I thinK) af /dev/fb1 as reported by modprobe ivtv-fb.

Any thoughts? why wouldn't it see the frame buffer correctly?

When the source is open, the possibilities are endless!

I have searched the forum, I have compied my XF86Config-4 file verbatum form another post. I have made the adjustments that I thought were required (hex addy reported by lspci for the card, and the fram buffer associated from modpropbe ivtv-fb).

But when it tries to come up X says it can't even find the frabe buffer device (it is there, and I have reset permisions on it to 666).

Just wondering if anyone has thoughts on why it won't start w/ this config. Or has anyone else seen it do this?

I think I have the same problem. I've got TV-OUT working for X, but when I restart my machine and it boots up, I get the same message:

(EE) open /dev/fb1: No such device
(EE) No devices detected

I found I have to do a "modprobe ivtv-fb" to get /dev/fb1 running. Then I can startx and it works fine. Since I am a linux newbie, I'm not sure where to put this so that it runs at start up.

to get a module to load on boot add it to the /etc/modules file.

I was able to get it working.

I had to put "ivtv-fb" and "saa7127" w/ the appropriate options (mine were diffeerent than others I've seen, maybe jsut the tons of tweakig I did 1st) into /etc/modules. Then w/ the appropriate /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 file it comes up on the tv.

just a quick note the proper way to do it is to just put the module name in /etc/modules and put your options in a file in the /etc/modutils/ directory.

When I did that it didn't take all the arguments. I had put the stuff under /etc/mythtv/modules/ivtv, I do see that there are other ivtvX files there, should they be included too?

This is a little unfamiliar to me, I'm used to just modifyint the /etc/modules.conf file, but mine says explicitly not too (so why am I listening *this* time?), and to use the update-modules command.

well if you look through the files in /etc/modutils/ you will see that one of them includes a line like include /etc/mythtv/modules/ivtv which is why putting the options in there worked.
