I am almost ready to put my system in the living room and when I plugged speakers in I noticed I had no audio.

Not sure if it was the PVR 250 not getting the audio, or something else, I downloaded an MP3 and tried playing it with mplayer. No audio there either. Tried all the ports on the sound card.

Sound is onboard on the compaq desktop I have. It seems to be detecting ok and mplayer isn't reporting any problem opening it etc.

Is it possible it is muted somewhere? Any ideas on how to test/confirm audio?

Thanks.

-Jeff

lsmod | grep snd
See anything? Run aumix and turn it up...

I see all kinds of stuff on the lsmod:

root@mythtv:~ # lsmod | grep snd
snd-pcm-oss 35588 1 (autoclean)
snd-mixer-oss 11160 0 [snd-pcm-oss]
snd-intel8x0 16644 1
snd-pcm 53888 0 [snd-pcm-oss snd-intel8x0]
snd-timer 13352 0 [snd-pcm]
snd-ac97-codec 31776 0 [snd-intel8x0]
snd-page-alloc 4320 0 [snd-intel8x0 snd-pcm]
snd-mpu401-uart 2944 0 [snd-intel8x0]
snd-rawmidi 12256 0 [snd-mpu401-uart]
snd-seq-device 3748 0 [snd-rawmidi]
snd 25828 0 [snd-pcm-oss snd-mixer-oss snd-intel8x0 snd-pcm snd-timer snd-ac97-codec snd-mpu401-uart snd-rawmidi snd-seq-device]
soundcore 3364 3 [snd]

It appears to be an intel 8x0 card...

alsamixer says its:

Intel 82801DB-ICH4
Analog Devices AD1981A

I ran aumix and turned it up (volume was already at 70%). Still no dice... Also tried playing a CD from within Myth, still no audio. :S

Argh...

I just combed through the output of dmesg twice and I'm not seeing a sound device detect, but I'm also not certain what I should be looking for. Can someone steer me in the right direction? Maybe its not detecting at boot... :S

you probably need to make sure your output channel is unmuted, not just turned up.

Also make sure you try unmuting & turning up the "Surround" channel. I have an ICH5 system and the surround volume control is the only one that seems to have any effect. I can mute the master volume and I still hear the surround channel!

Hi Jeff,

I have the exact same setup as you do, and I ran into the same problem. Check out the thread posted by reddog a few days earlier about recompiling msp3400. I did that and I got sound.

Hope that helps.
