Hi,
i installed the Knoppmyth v4.1r4 with i586 modules. My board is an VIA Epia M9000.
Problem is the distortion if I play mp3 music. I searched in the forum but everything I tried didn't solve the problem. For any advice I will be appreciated.
Also to play a DVD don't work at the moment :(

I had the same problem, let me guess you are using an onboard sound right?
I was too, but then I got a sblive card, and now the static/distortion is gone. Someone else posted that they have done this, which I tried, and it worked for me to, so you may want to invest a few bucks in a sound card.

Yes, I am using the onboard sound. I can't believe that it is the only way to use a sblive card. Maybe if someone knew the problem I could fix it. I guess you can play DVDs. If I try the hd LED is short blinking and nothing happens.

yeah its kinda dumb, i think it has to do with the nforce2 motherboards, not too sure on that, but whenever i played a mp3 or a mpg or avi in the video's the same thing would happen.

ok I'll hop in here for a second.

1) the mxxxxx boards do not use nforce and there is no problem with onboard sound on nforce boards. My sound works just fine on my nforce2 onboard.

2) playing dvd's will work out of the box if they are not encrypted (homemade) but commercial dvd's are almost always encrypted. To play these you need decss, but It cannot be distributed with knoppmyth as it is illegal under the DMCA in the US.

1) The EPIA M9000 has an VT8235 south bridge with VT1616 six channel AC'97codec.

2) Thx for info ... one problem solved.

I am a little bit frustrated at the moment.
Installation of /usr/share/doc/libdvdread3/example/install-***.sh has no effect to play DVDs.
Next I try was:
cd /usr/src/r4v4_src
tar -xvjf MPlayer-0.92-patched.tar.bz2
cd MPlayer-0.92
./configure
make
make install
cd /usr/local/bin
chown root:mythtv mplayer
chmod u=rwxs mplayer
chmod g=rxs mplayer

Now the DVD-Rom starts but nothing happens
And sound problem still available ... :?
