I downloaded and installed R4V4 via an iso I got from a mirror yesterday(6/7/2004). Do I now need to update my debs to version 0.15.1 per cecil’s posting at http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=1612?? Or, does the latest R4V4 version contain the latest 0.15.1 debs and not the 0.15 debs? Everything looks the same in the GUI so I am assuming that I am still running the older debs. How can I tell what version I have with my R4V4 installation?

When I follow Cecil’s instructions I get a message about them already being the latest version? Is there a way to know for sure what version I have? In my mythFrontend GUI, in the system status section, it says I am running Myth Version 0.15.20040525-1. What does this mean with reguards to the debs version? Below is the output I get from my update attempt. Thanks.

root@mythtv:/etc/apt# apt-get install mythtv-i586-lirc mythmusic-i586 mythvideo-i586 mythnews
Reading Package Lists... Done
Building Dependency Tree... Done
mythtv-i586-lirc is already the newest version.
mythmusic-i586 is already the newest version.
mythvideo-i586 is already the newest version.
mythnews is already the newest version.

You should have the latest version if you downloaded anyutime after late on the 2nd. See tthis thread for details: http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=1620
You can check what versions you have installed like this:
Code:
apt-show-versions | grep myth | sort

When I do that I get:
Quote:
mythdvd-i686 0.15-1 installed: No available version in archive
mythgallery-i686 0.15-1 installed: No available version in archive
mythgame-i686 0.15-1 installed: No available version in archive
mythmusic-i686 0.15.1-1 installed: No available version in archive
mythnews 0.15-2 installed: No available version in archive
mythtv-i686-lirc 0.15.1-1 installed: No available version in archive
mythvideo-i686 0.15.1-1 installed: No available version in archive
mythweather-i686 0.15-1 installed: No available version in archive
mythweb 0.15.1-1 installed: No available version in archive

I haven't updated in a while, but just downloaded the ISO yesterday. Can I just backup and update from 0.14-1 ?

mythtv@mythtv:~ $ apt-show-versions | grep myth | sort

mythdvd-i686 0.14-1 installed: No available version in archive
mythgallery-i686 0.12-1 installed: No available version in archive
mythgame-i686 0.12-1 installed: No available version in archive
mythmusic-i686 0.14-1 installed: No available version in archive
mythnews 0.14-1 installed: No available version in archive
mythtv-i686-lirc-xvmc 0.14-1 installed: No available version in archive
mythvideo-i686 0.14-1 installed: No available version in archive
mythweather-i686 0.14-1 installed: No available version in archive
mythweb 0.14-1 installed: No available version in archive

well if you want to update through apt-get then you will have to add the repository to your /etc/apt/sources.list file as described in a sticky post, if you are upgrading via iso you will need to do mythbackup then install from the cd using autoupgrade.

I've just tried the auto-upgrade but I can't get the restore to work properly.

Here's what I did :-

Ran mythbackup as root. (I got errors when I ran it as the mythtv user).
did tar cvjpf /myth/backup/mythtv.tar.bz2 /home/mythtv/.mythtv /etc/mythtv/modules as suggested in this post http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=1293&highlight=cvjpf+myth+backup+mythtv+tar+bz2
Made a "ghost" of my /dev/hda1 partition just in case.
After the upgrade I ran install-nvidia.sh and then went through the install-i686-l process in the xterm window.

The database restore seems to fail as follows :-

2004-06-24 01:44:42 Upgrading to schema version 1047
DB Error (Performing database upgrade):
Query was:
ALTER TABLE record ADD COLUMN search INT UNSIGNED NOT NULL DEFAULT 0;
Driver error was [2/-1]:
QMYSQL3: Unable to execute query
Database error was:
Duplicate column name 'search'

Any idea what I have done wrong ?

After a lot of digging, I found I had got the username wrong during the upgrade, so the db would not connect, and my /myth directories were all the wrong user.

I have managed to recover my old install. I restored the ghost image, reconfigured lilo and restarted. Everything working as before except scheduling recordings.

Found I had three columns missing from the "record" table, so the sql scripts were failing. (these were recorddups, postroll, preroll) I added these using webmin and it seems to be working as before (Myth 0.14)

I have done another mythbackup, and compared the earlier backup with the latest, and these columns were missing from the original backup. Maybe this is another reason why it failed ?

Anyway, I'm going to try again using the new backup.
