Cesman,

Making progress - performance I have is in question with a 1.8GHZ box, G4 video card, and PVR250.... I am assuming it should not be? Lots of disk and memory.

I saw the thread:
http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=440

Can you coach a newbie on (IF) and (HOW) I should go abut upgrading a PVR250 and drivers or if you address this in your latest update?

I am just seeing pretty slow LiveTV (staggered) almost like using software vs. hardware resources.

Again - u know I am a learner (-; I did "hear the sound" but decided to collapse the system and start over...

Thx again

Do you have the nvidia drivers installed? I've already posted directions on installing ivtv, please search the forum.

another thing to check is if dma is turned on for the disk drive.

do
hdparm /dev/hda

as root.

you should see dma and 32bit disk io set to 1.

Rather than starting a new topic I will ask here. I have a similar problem where live TV feels just slightly slow. The bigger problem is my wife notices it. Sound and everything is fine and in sync, but it is almost like the frame rate is <=25 fps. (Nothing I could find is set to PAL or anything else)
nForce2 mobo with built in video (also notice this with GF4 AGP card). 512 DDR dual channel, 2600+ at 2.08GHZ. Just a PVR250. There should be plenty of HP here, but it is just lagging enough to be disorienting at times. KnoppMyth setting are defaults. (Did a fresh install to work through some other audio stuff that is now fixed)

I only said PAL because I thought someone might jump in and say that was the problem. The signal is NTSC (Cable in So. California). I believe PAL has a frame-rate of 25 fps right? Anyway, my problem is that the video feels like it is 20-25 fps. Almost but not right. That may not be the best way to describe it, but it is there non the less. I imagine if I did select PAL somewhere things would be worse.

Do you have deinterlacing turned on? That could make it seem more like film and thus more like 24 fps...

I have just spent more time playing with de-interlacing and the other filter options kerneldeint and so on. With all de-interlacing off it seems a little better but there are the weird interlacing artifacts. So, I tried using kerneldint and it does not change much but it is better then with the standard de-interlacing on. No matter what it feels slightly off kilter. Not sure what else to do here.
