I'm experiencing LiveTV lockups - but my problems don't stop there. My whole box freezes after a certain time, whether I'm watching TV or not. I can't get CTRL-ALT-F1 or any response from CTRL-ALT-DELETE or ESC or ALT-TAB. The only thing that responds is the hard power off.

I've had this happen a) during recording when the TV is off, b) when I'm watching what I'm recording. c) when I'm not recording, but watching LiveTV.

It's a little disconcerting, because I'm a complete n00b at linux, so I'm somewhat hesistant to recompile kernels and that sort of thing.

I guess I'll troll around for some ideas before I start screaming, but I really hope there's a solution - I've just spent all this time bragging to my friends how I made this thing work
:)

I'm having the same situation. Leave the box overnight and check it the next night and no response form the keyboard. Have to power off-on or reset. Novice at best.

well as soon as you reboot the box look at /var/log/messages and see if there is any indication as to why it locked up.

How can I clear the messages file so I can discern only the entries concerning the freezing?

well if you had to reboot there will be all the boot stuff in there even if you cleared the log. I usually do it like this.

cat /var/log/messages | less

then pagedn till it beeps at you and page up till you get past the boot stuff. also all the logs are timestamped, so if you know the apporximate times that helps too.

P.S. and in case you didn't know to get out of less you just hit q
