Yes it makes sense, but it doesn't belong in the Installation forum.

well you probably made the right decision if you want something easy to setup and you have the hdtv I would go with the windows and the ati with the component output. I would imagine that this will not be supported in linux for a LONG time as ati won't give the devs the specs.

We, the Myth community, should start a 'Special Interest Lobby' through the web to petition stingy companies to release Linux drivers. Through projects like MythTV, and the emergence of Open Office, etc., the Linux desktop community is growing quickly! Hardware vendors need to make a profit, and Linux desktop users want better HW support. Think of how many sales ATI has lost to nVidia of the past 12 months B/C of MythTV!

In hardware slales, a few percentage points is HUGE. And Linux users are probably at least a few percentage points of overall HW sales by now, or will be shortly :)

Does this make sense to anyone?

I second that!!!! I myself dont understand why Hauppauge is not creating the linux drivers for pvr 250/350 themselves. I bet that a very large percentage of people using these cards are running them under linux. These companies need to open their eyes!!!

Edit: Sorry for commenting on this in the installation forum cesman. Topic got me excited :)

Well, I'm back..... I went and bought a nice Nvidia 5200 FX card and love the quality of the tv out signal. Works great at 1024x768 and is smooth as silk on playback..... Went to bed last night having set my system to record a couple of shows.... Got up this morning and discovered my box had locked up overnight. :(

After rebooting it came back to life so I let it play a bit and after about 2 hours the video started screwing up and eventually went away..... Menus and everthing else works.... Hit the PVR-250 card with some cold spray and it poped back... darn it all.... I hate to order another card so I am going to see if I can install my ATI All-in-Wonder VE card and use it for capture only.

Any suggestions? I plan on using the 5200 with its hardware decoder for output and to keep the processor load down so I may be able to still watch live tv. Will report my results later. :(

XVMC only works w/ MPEG-2 streams. It will not offload the CPU when playing back RTJEG or MPEG-4. Those are the two streams that are produced when using a software based tuner.

Thanks for your reply. After doing some more research I see that my ATI board will not work with Myth at all due to incompatible video format issues so I guess I will just have to purchase another PVR250. I will have to wait until I get some money put aside as this is a bad time of the month to be spending on toys :(

It was worth exploring the option :)

Is there a good alternative CHEAP video capture board that comes with a remote and works with Myth? (needs a s-video input and support for dbxtv 5.1 sound)
