Where did you place it? Note: it is test_ioctl not test_ioctrl.

right about the command (a typo)

I haven't yet tried to put the command anywhere in a startup file, as I have no idea which one would be appropriate. I'm pretty new to Linux, so I'm not sure what scripts get run on startup.

In the past, I suggested:

Thanks.

Still stays muted even with the command in that file you suggested. Your other thread says to check the ivtv mailing list, but there's no information there about that problem.

I will post a question on that list about it to see if anyone has an idea.

I was able to fix this by changing KnoppMyth-run to not start and stop xawtv before mythfrontend. I ssh'd into my box and ran
Code:
test_ioctl -a
a few times while mythfrontend was starting up. It reported "Mute = 0" before X started and then "Muted = 1" when xawtv started.

There's some more info in this thread: http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic. ... =pvr+muted

I am running PVR-250 setup and the following worked for me.

I commented out the line in /home/mythtv/.fvwm/fvwmrc which says:

exec KnoppMyth-run

by placing a hash mark (#) at the beginning of the line and added the following line instead:

exec mythfrontend

I don't know if this will have any other implications but it seems to work for me.
Good Luck,
Hish

Thanks, everyone.
I got it working by editing out the xawtv command in KnoppMyth-run as was suggested in the other thread.

Sound is back!

I too am suffering from this problem.

test_ioctrl -y mute=0

I get sound, but if I reboot, I have to issue that command to get sound in mythtv. There has to be a place to put it so that it works at bootup... cesman?

I have the same problem - my mute is set to 1, but when I try to set it to 0 I get an ioctl FAILED error. I'm stuck. :(

Did you ever get this fixed? I get the same thing when running test_ioctl -y mute=0 (or any other test_ioctl option) I get:

ioctl: VIDIOC_S_CTRL
ioctl: VIDIOC_S_CTRL failed

Is this a sound driver issue? Can anyone tell me where to look to troubleshoot this? Thanks.

I cannot accurately state what the issue is as I have not experienced this problem. If the thread(s) about editting KnoppMyth-run or commenting it in ~/.fvwm/.fvwm2rc and adding an entry for mythfrontend doesn't work. The only possible thing I can thing of is the msp3400 module. Please see ivtv archive to possible solution.

Forgot to reply to this thread. Cesman's suggestion worked! Here's what I did:

Login as mythtv

vi .fvwm/.fvwm2rc

Comment out:
exec KnoppMyth-run

add the following line instead:
exec mythfrontend

reboot
