Okay, I'm completely puzzled. I'd appreciate it if anyone can help me out with this. I've been searching the archives (this forum, ivtv list, mythtv list) and haven't found anything that helps.

The rundown: I have a Leatek WinTV2000/Deluxe (bttv) card in my KnoppMyth box that's working fine. (It's coupled with a SB Live Value). Several days ago, I installed a Hauppauge PVR-250.

lspci -v
00:0b.0 Multimedia video controller: Internext Compression Inc iTVC15 MPEG-2 Encoder (rev 01)
Subsystem: Hauppauge computer works Inc.: Unknown device 4801
Flags: bus master, medium devsel, latency 64, IRQ 11
Memory at c4000000 (32-bit, prefetchable) [size=64M]
Capabilities: [44] Power Management version 2

Initially, the card worked flawlessly. My only problem was that I had to manually modprobe the ivtv module on every reboot. KnoppMyth's boot sequence seemed to detect the card, but it didn't attempt to load the ivtv module.

My problems began with the card intermittently not changing channels. It would record at the correct times, but would always record the same channel. I removed the card from MythTV's configuration, reset it's settings, and all seemed well. (I think this was a fluke.)

Then, I was able to use LiveTV to view one channel, but could not change the channel. Now, if I try to watch live TV with the PVR-250, the screen goes black (like it's trying to buffer the video), and mythfrontend seems to lock. I can still switch to another console and kill the mythfronend process, and X continues to respond.

The modules seem to load fine, ivtv gives:
Mar 28 22:49:00 pvrllama kernel: ivtv: Encoder revision: 0x02040011
Mar 28 22:49:00 pvrllama kernel: ivtv: Decoder revision: 0x02020023
Mar 28 22:49:00 pvrllama kernel: ivtv: Device or minor 0 not accepted
Mar 28 22:49:00 pvrllama kernel: ivtv: Registered v4l2 device, minor 1
Mar 28 22:49:00 pvrllama kernel: ivtv: Registered v4l2 device, minor 32
Mar 28 22:49:00 pvrllama kernel: ivtv: Device or minor 0 not accepted
Mar 28 22:49:00 pvrllama kernel: ivtv: Registered v4l2 device, minor 225
Mar 28 22:49:00 pvrllama kernel: ivtv: loaded

This is the same type of output I was getting when the card was working.

I'm completely perplexed. I installed the card in a WinXP box to be sure the card was working, and all was fine.

As of this moment, the card will record at the scheduled times, but records only channel 4 (wont' change the cannel). I cannot watch LiveTV.

Has anyone seen/fixed this behavior?

Thanks in advance!

Phill W.

Is the card sharing and IRQ with another card? Have you tried a different slot? IF the script detected the card on boot, it should have setup the modules. Have you modified any of the modules in /etc/mythtv/modules?

Thanks for the quick reply.

I'm not sure what the IRQ situation was when the card was working. I noticed it was sharing an IRQ with the SB Live Value, so I moved the PVR card to a different slot. The problem didn't change, so I removed the Live card. Still, no change.

Currently, the PVR is on IRQ 11, and according to lspci, IRQ 11 is being shared by pretty much everything except for my 3dfx 3000 AGP (IRQ5).

My motherboard is an ECS K7S5A, and all the onboard SIS chipset items (USB, Audio, IDE, etc) are sharing IRQ 11. Incidentally, KnoppMyth doesn't seem to like the onboard sound though everything else seems to work fine.

I modified the bttv capture card settings to get my Leadtek card working:

pvrllama:/home/alamar# cat /etc/mythtv/modules/bttv1
alias char-major-81-1 bttv
options bttv card=34 tuner=2 radio=1

I had attempted to load the ivtv drivers on boot by adding it to /etc/modules and running update-modules. That seemed to make KnoppMyth load the module correctly, but it doesn't change the behavior I'm seeing. (Currently, that's commented out)

Oh, and as a side-note, I tried a clean KnoppMyth install on a new harddrive with both the bttv card and the PVR-250 card already installed. The same thing happened... the ivtv module wasn't loaded on boot, but if I loaded it manually, the card responded correctly to diagnostics (test_ioctl -a, et. al.)

Odd that it would not load the modules....Nothing comes to mind. If you BIOS allows it, assign an IRQ to the slot the card is in.

Okay, although I can't assign IRQs in my BIOS, you gave me an idea. In the BIOS, I shut off all the extra things I don't use (on-board sound, serial ports, parallel ports, floppy, etc).

Now, the only IRQ that's shared is 5, and that's my video card and the PCI-AGP bridge. My PVR card is on IRQ4 all by itself. Unfortunately, I'm back to getting the frontend-hang that I had previously.

My 250's did this a few times on SIS 735 boards (K7S5A, BIOS level doesn't matter, SIS 746 same thing). R4V2 more than R4. In any case, the black screen/freeze (you may know this) can be caused by no soundcard detection (Live card not seated properly, etc...).

I have been able to Watch live TV and not change the channel. The numbers come on the OSD, but channel is stuck and fixed. All I did to fix it (on both my machines) was clear all capture boards and re-try mythtv-setup, (you've done this I think), apt-get remove mythtv-i686-lirc (etc...), apt-get install mythtv-i686-lirc (etc...), reboot, and run mythtv-setup. Then I could change channels.

I'm currently using IVTV 1.9 (have probs with all levels). Which level are you using? 1.9 I assume if you put on R4V2. With the SIS boards, I always put R4, then fix all the probs and end up with IVTV 1.9. This "should" be like R4V2, but it is most definately not.
