I am about to make the leap from my mid .11 CVS Myth system to a fresh KnoppMyth Install.

HW is:

AMD Duron 1.1
384MB RAM
1 X 160GB Drive for recordings only (/tv)
1 X 80 GB drive that has the OS, Myth and Music on it right now
NVidia GeForce2 TV out Card
PVR-250 MPEG2 Encoder Card
Sound Blaster Audio

I don't mind losing my myth recordings but could also spend the time to export and import the recording info if someone could point me in the right direction. I do mind losing about 60GB of ripped MP3s.

What I am thinking of doing is copy the music to the 160GB drive and installing KnoppMyth on the 80GB drive. Then changing my TV recording partition to the 160GB drive. Then, if appropriate, reimporting the TV recordings that I keep.

I am wondering, if I am willing to sacrifice the TV recordings, how easy it will be to bring KnoppMyth up?

Any help greatly appreciate. I have the ISO in hand and am ready to go to work, although I find the docs a bit confusing as to how to enable my NVIDIA TV out and get my 250 working from the get go, will read again.

Well if you move your mp3's to the second drive it shold be very simple. Just do the autoinstall. The autoinstall only changes the first harddrive, and it has to be /dev/hda (primary master of onboard ide) then once the install is done you could just move your mp3's into the /myth/music folder and mount the other drive under /myth/tv for your recordings.

As for saving the recordings the only way I know of is nuvexport, which is not hard, but it's a one file at a time thing I think. and I'm not sure how big the differences in the 0.11 and 0.14 database formats are and if this would cause a problem or not. Maybe someone more knowledgable about this will pipe in.

As for getting the nvidia and tvout setup this should not be a problem if you managed to get it with another distro and 0.11. Basically you just have to run the install-nvidia.sh script which is just an easy way to install the binary nvidia drivers. It also changed the driver name in XF86Config-4 for you. Then to get the TV-out you will need to set the refresh rates to be acceptable for a TV, and sometimes you have to add the ConnectedMonitor option depending on your card. Plus if you've got R4v2 then you will most likely be able to simply copy the tv out XF86Config example over and it will work in most situations.

The PVR250 should "just work"

Thanks for the info. I also wanted to ask if the version of the PVR250 driver that is included is new enough that it doesn't have the problem where it needs to be reset after a few days. My current load seems to need to have the inputs switched ever few days (cron job worked fine), in order to ensure proper picture quality. Otherwise I had issues.

I'm going to give things a shot either tonight or tomorrow morning. Ugh, the thought of having Myth down really sucks. I'm glad Cesman thought of an auto updater. Good job. Can't wait to be on KnoppMyth.
