HI All,
I'm finally taking the plunge this morning and I'm installing KnoppMyth, moving from the mid .11 CVS of Myth.
One strange thing, during the install when I tried to select my TZ (Canada/Atlantic) it would appear to take it then go back to the main menu and tell me I was in Pacific. I decided to proceed and will change it from the console later, I think there is a knoppix-tz tool or something? Has anyone else seen this issue? Other than that the install appears to be smooth. I'll post any other thoughts here.
So far, very impressed. Nice work guys. I spent weeks getting .8, .9, .10 and .11 working and was lothe to touch the box, but I finally decided it was time to ease upgrades etc. Thanks!
-Jeff

The TZ did take when it is set after the install. I selected DHCP broadcast, which I assumed meant to do a DHCP Discover/use DHCP for my IP settings. The wording there could probably be simplified for non networking folks.
I also use a Duron 1.1Ghz and I'm not sure if thats i586 and i686, so I took a gamble and said i586, we'll see if I was right.
I also noticed during the initial boot that it detected my PVR250 properly and set it up, but that the audio mixer failed for some reason. I have a SB Live card... not sure what that will mean in a few minutes, but we'll see... I did the basic myth setup and am getting channel data now..

My channels are updating now from Zap2It... I'm not quite sure from the docs when I install the NVidia driver for my GeForce2 MX card... I think I boot in to Myth once and then bail out and do it...
I'm also not sure when/if I need to install the lirc support for the PVR250, thats kind of vauge... thoughts?
Still loving this. Could be less than an hour to operational, that will be a record.

You can install lirc and the nvidia drivers any time.
To use the grey remote that comes with your PVR 250 you need to install lirc.

Ok... I installed the NVidia driver and it didn't work with the stock config file, but I did save my config from my old system and I'm trying that...
Just noticed it says the X server can not start properly... I'm going to look at the server output and see what it says....
Hmm, looks like a problem with my mouse... currently using a USB mouse and it is gagging on a PS/2 entry... I'm trying the default config again... nope, that hung it... I need to edit the default to be correct for my GF2MX I think...
-Jeff
PS - How do I install the lirc stuff for my grey remote?

I am getting an error on boot about MythBackEnd being unable to create a .qt file. Is this normal?

What happens is the tz script runs once while you are still booted readonly from the cd and it fails. then it runs agian after the first boot at which point it should work.
upon install you should have been asked if you wanted to install lirc support if you did then the lirc should be set for you.
As far as the X config goes you just need to make sure you have the driver as nvidia and not nv if you have installed the nvidia driver using the install-nvidia.sh script. And if you are doing tvout the most important part is setting the refresh rates. TV's cannot handle the high refresh rates of a monitor.
the .qt error is normal.
