I'm trying to install KM on a box that doesn't have a CD so I'm using a second box to do the CD install to the HD. After installing and moving the drive to the other box, all I get is a lilo L 40 error. If I boot on the box used for the install, then everything works ok. The drive is 5GB. I tried all the options in lilo.conf (lba32, linear, etc...) and all of the LBA bios options but nothing seems to make a difference. Lilo is installed to MBR. What should I be looking out for here? Perhaps I need to change some settings on the machine that was used for the install? Can I use an alternate boot loader? |

Figured it out... I repartitioned the disk leaving a 20mb free space at the beginning and then creating hda1,hda2,hda3. After manually installing, I created hda4 in the free space and formatted it. Next I copied /boot from hda1 to hda4. Next I 'grub-install --root-directory=/mnt/hda4 /dev/hda' At this point, the machine will boot to a grub prompt. Hooray! Then, I can 'root (hd0,3)', 'kernel /boot/vmlinuz... root=/dev/hda1', 'initrd initrd.gz', and 'boot'. |
