I have Knoppmyth up and running finally - fantastic
However for 2 weeks the PVR 250 wouldn't tune to any channel and I eventually found that I needed to Edit /etc/mythtv/modules/ivtv and set tuner type to 20 for Pal not Ntsc.

Is this something that should have happened automatically? If not it would be really helpful to have a line in the install instructions, or better a PAL/NTSC question in the setup scripts. with that info my install would have been overnight.

I did find the info in the forums eventually but I didn't know what I was looking for and the instructions imply it "just works" which it does apart from this.

Great project. I have failed to get Myth working several times under redhat and this is far easier. Thanks.

Andy

I'm in PAL land (Switzerland) and had to edit these files to get it working with my PVR 350:

/etc/init.d/set_ivtv_params

Change line 4:
from IVTV_DT='0' to IVTV_DT='4'

Change line 5:
from IVTV_DF='NTSC' to IVTV_DF='PAL'

Change line 29:
from "...height=450" to "...height=576"

/etc/mythtv/modules/ivtv

Change line 4:
from "options tuner type=2" to "options tuner type=5"

BTW: what's the difference between tuner type=5 and tuner type=20?!?

After this do a update-modules and then a depmod -a... then reboot. Of course some settings in mythtv-setup (you can start it from command line) need to be set to PAL as well.

Hey guys, what model number do your cards have? I have the 32559 card (PVR-250 MCE OEM - Pal version) and so far I cannot get it to tune to the PAL broadcast in New Zealand.

I will try all your configs tonight, but am not sure if they apply to my card or not.

Cheers,
JohnO

Mine is a PVR 350. Unfortunately I've "lost" (thrown away :( ) my packaging so I can't really give more details on it. The label on the tuner itself tells me "PAL-B/G 48134 REVI21" with a copyright from 2002... but that probably doesn't help.

Well it helps in as much as it tells me your card (48134) is not the same as mine (32559), so if your settings don't fix my tuning problems I won't have to ditch the card yet!

Cheers,
JohnO

I just searched the forum a bit more and found a way how to determine the tuner type you'll need to specify in /etc/mythtv/modules/ivtv. Take a look at (b) in http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=3389#3389. The output in /var/log/messages looks like this on my box:

Code:

Apr 27 10:05:04 mythtv kernel: tvee: tuner fmt=PAL(B/G) (eeprom=0x04, v4l2=0x00000007)

I have to capture cards in my box!

First one (PVR 350):
tvee: tuner=Philips FM1216 (idx=21, type=5)

Second one (WinTV Express BT878 chip):
tvee: tuner=LG TP18PSB11D (idx=48, type=29)

Setting the correct tuner type is essential in order to get your card working correctly.

Krypton_john: Did you set the correct "Channel frequency table" in mythtv-setup (3d screen in "1. General")?

Yeah, I set the frequency type to "newzealand". I think I need to do a lot of more basic stuff as discussed previously to force the thing into PAL mode. I'll re-install the PVT-250 (I'd reverted to a BT878 card in the mean time  ) and play some more...

Cheers,
JohnO

> Hey guys, what model number do your cards have?

sorry for the delay in replying - just had a baby.
(I'll be using that as an excuse for most things for the next 18 years!)
The big sticker on the tuner of my Pvr250 purchased in UK reads
"Pal-I 32035" so I guess its different again.

> BTW: what's the difference between tuner type=5 and tuner type=20?!?

I am only guessing but are they different flavours of PAL eg Pal-M etc?
