Post subject: | Solved: R5E50 Manual Install Help - Partitioning |
Hi, Everyone, I have a working R5D1 system, but really would like to try an R5E50 setup. I've read the pamphlet, and searched the forums, but didn't find anything on this, particularly. At the moment I'm trying to install R5E50 from scratch onto a single 80GB IDE drive on /hda, with an IDE DVDROM on /hdc . I'm attempting to set up the partitions like this: /dev/hda1 / 5GB ext3 /dev/hda2 (swap) 768MB /dev/hda3 /myth remainder of drive XFS I've had lots of weird performance blips on the box, so I'd really like to try using XFS for my /myth partition, especially with 3 capture cards in the system. (and a separate frontend) I used an Ubuntu disk to partition the disk in this setup, but I can't seem to be able to tell the KnoppMyth install to use /dev/hda3 as /myth. If I "load configuration" as suggested in the pamphlet then the installer tried to load it all onto /dev/hda1. If I attempt to manually tell it where to install it only gives me the options of /dev/hda1 or /dev/hda3 -- but no apparent choice to separate the /myth partition, so it all goes on one partition yet again. Am I missing something very basic here? Thanks in advance! |

OK, after installing to /dev/hda1 and booting off the drive for the first time... I'm thinking that I need to edit /etc/fstab to automount /dev/hda3 as /myth . If I do this, how do I set the necessary permissions on the drive so that the mythtv user can create/delete recordings etc... ? I'm used to changing permissions within Konqueror, perhaps, but I'm not terribly good with chmod... Thanks in advance! |

OK, made a /myth directory on the /dev/hda1 partition. Then set up /etc/fstab for /dev/hda3 /myth xfs auto,rw,users 0 0 had to get the permissions right, though. I think this worked: (as root) chown mythtv /myth Seems to work! |

See the script: /usr/local/bin/mkmythdir on your KnoppMyth box. |
