I really appreciate all the detail and effort you put into your post/install so far. R5B7 is quite old in the MythTV/Knoppmyth world now. Do you think it would be possible to download R5E50 and try that. SATA hus much more emphasis in R5E50 than ever before. It should just work. See TJC's R5E50 install guide in under the hints and tips section before you begin. The Ether.. |

You can auto installed to SATA with R5E50, auto install however will only install to one drive. Given the drives you have, looks like you have something else in mind.... X not starting seems to be the issue. Reinstall R5E50 and try: Code: install-nvidia-debian.sh 1.0-8776 -force

I had the same thing with R5E0 on a motherboard with the S3 Unichrome chipset. I was installing to a 250 gig PATA drive and had 2 PVR150s on the board. I'm not in front of the box right now, but I can post the rest of the specs later if it will help. I reloaded a few times with the same results. It's currently on my bench awaiting more free time. ![]() Gonz |

Try disconnecting the other drives and installing with just the PATA. Then reconnect and partition/format the other drives as desired afterwards. |

The problem I think is in video card drivers. I found a posable solution here http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=13110 had to use sda1 insted of hda1 nstall-nvidia-debian.sh 1.0-8776 -force this ended in the same rsult as before. tried typing in "startx" to see what error messages, this is what i got NVIDIA(0): Failed to initialize the NVIDIA graphics device Fatal IO error 104 (connection reset by peer) on X server :0.0 " what is the correct driver for my card? gforce 7600gs how does one edit a cofig file from a runlevel3. |

Hi, Just to get things going in x, default of "vesa" for a driver should allow it to start so you can at least go through and finish the setup. May have to watch the depth (16 / 24) and res (1024x768 / 800x600) also. I had troubles with the 1280x1024 being too much for my old hardware. I have an nvidia card and will only run with "nv" as a driver. You may be in the opposite end with hardware that almost to new ![]() After the 5 minutes, x will try to restart however you can check if the settings will work by trying # startx ... If it runs, ctl alt bckspace to kill it. Mike |

I looked again and the xorg.conf was completely empty. Something in the install must have gotten confused. ![]() Gonz |

Could not get any KnoppMyth to install the right video driver. So I tried a old stand by, in the form of Debian testing, It installed the "vesa" for video. I will need a NVidia driver I am going to install the Myth from that point. Thank you all for your help |

I'm having the same trouble: 7600gs by chaintech. IDE hard drive. NForce-2 MB. Namely, the "c7" respawning and when I try and install the nvidia drivers:error processing nvidia-glx-legacy_*877*.deb dhclient and netcardconfig don't get me connected so I can't really download drivers Every time I edit the xorg.conf it keeps getting overwritten when I reboot. |

Okay, got it fixed! I installed another video card 5200 Did an upgrade reinstall Everything worked fine and now with internet access, Followed this guide switching in the 7600gs just before installing the drivers http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=13443 and now everything is happy. |
