Post subject: | Installation on unusually named IDE disks |
Hi I tried to install R5E50 on a shoebox machine last night. This machine has a hardware fault which means I have to connect the hard disk and DVD drive to the second IDE channel - they show up as hdc and hdd respectively. First I tried the automatic install. This got up to the point of formatting the disk but, instead of formatting hdc, it tried to format hda, which doesn't exist and therefore failed. It seems for IDE based systems _parts_ of the installer are assuming the install disk will be hda. I then tried a manual install, this was less successful in that I couldn't get past the partitioning section. Quitting out of cfdisk simply dropped me back to the previous screen, I could make no progress. Happy to provide more information if needed. Regards Martin. |

You are absolutely right in that there are some parts that are not working right for unusual disk configurations. That will be addressed in the R6 release that we are working on. |
