I've got a system that hangs just after the CD test passes. The CPU is identified and then it just sits there...

I recently added a SBE and that install (R5C7) went without a hitch. For many months I've been having intermittent issues with MythWeb displaying white (blank) pages. I haven't been able to get to the root of the issue and it always seems to "automagically" fix itself after a few days.

In the last week or so, the blank page issue has been persistent, so I thought I do an upgrade to see if that changes things.

The backup went well and I verified it using the "check_backup.sh" script. On the first boot of the CD, I used the "tv testcd" parameters and the system locked up just after the CD passes and the CPU is identified.

I then tried:

tv
<just enter - this is what I normally use>
tv noscsi testcd
tv noscsi
expert tv testcd

All with the same results. I also tried hooking up a VGA monitor (I was using it through the S-Video output) and had the same issue.

MBE:
R5B7
AMD XP2400+
ECS K7VTA3 MB
512 MB DDR
~800 GB in LVM
Running for ~18 months, been quite sometime since the last upgrade.

I've never had an issue booting any OS on this machine - so I'm a little lost.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

I just booted the R5C7 CD on this machine and it worked fine.

I also booted the R5E50 CD on a Gateway P4 - it was fine also.

Maybe I'll download a CD or two from between these releases and see what happens...

have you check the md5sum of the ISO File ?

md5sum KnoppMythR5E50.iso

you can see the correct md5sum in the file (for example)

ftp://ftp.knoppmyth.net/R5/R5E50/KnoppM ... iso.md5sum

Also don't forget that compatability of burnt CDs is an inexact science. It's possible to have a CD that tested fine in one machine fail in another. Even when using the same burner, reader and brand of media which have worked before...

Thanks for the reply - yes the md5sum is OK and the CD passes its own test.

I wish that was the case - but I've never had any issues with the setup that I'm using. I could burn the CD again, but I think I'd just be wasting a blank...

When I get a maintenance window on the system - I'll have to play with it some more. Very strange...

Thanks.

I disabled ACPI in the BIOS and was able to finish the boot/install.
