I have onboard intel sound. However, the only sound that I can hear is from the internal mono speaker. I've checked with alsamixer and PCM is not muted and the volumes are up. Is there another setting I need to configure to get the sound to come out the external speakers? Evertyhing else seems to work great.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

thanks,
esurfer

Have you verified that your external speaker are indeed working(perhaps plugging them into a CD player or another device) and plugged into line out?

Hmmm. After playing with a few settings, I found out my sound is being directed to the headphones output. How can I change it so that it is being directed out the external speaker output. Also, it seems as if the configuration is not being saved when I reboot. How do you get it to save the settings?

Thanks,

esurfer

To save the settings from alsamixer:
/usr/sbin/alsactl store

To restore settings:
/usr/sbin/alsactl restore

The restore can be inserted in one of the startup scripts, so you have your settings kept each time you boot up.
