I just finished getting KnoppMyth (R5D1) working, and now that I've gotten the hang of it am making plans on getting a new mobo, sound card and maybe another tuner card. Does this mean I'll have to do a complete reinstall, or will it autodetect all the new hardware automatically? Thanks, Anthony |

It depends, I tried to move a drive between machines as the weekend and it returned the rapidly scrolling suspend2 error and then ran out of inodes. Depending on chipset changes between motherboards you may have to add/remove boot parameters. Bruce S. |

Complete hardware autodetection on every boot is disabled. Your best bet is to backup and auto upgrade. Search for further details. |

Thanks for the fast replies. I'll definitely give it a shot when the time comes, and do some forum searches until then. - Anthony |

I just migrated to a new system this weekend (Totally new hardware except of tuner card). I cloned the hard drive first so I had a good backup before I took the plunge: Code: dd if=/dev/hda of=/dev/hdb bs=32768k
http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=12812 I then put the cloned hard drive into the new system. I booted to the command prompt since X did not have the proper drivers for the new video card (I was running R5D1 on the old system as well). I signed in as the root account and ran the "mythbackup" script to backup all the current settings. After the backup ran sucessfully, I rebooted the system booting from the R5E50 CD. I chose the auto upgrade selection and everything came up great on the first try. The only things I had to tweek where my Samba and mysql settings (I play videos over my laptop using Tapeworm). Here are another useful links: http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=13108 http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=10195 I am going to post my hardware specs this afternoon / evening in the Tier 1 section shortly... |

So, do you think it's best to move the hard drive to the new system and do the backup with it installed? I was planning on doing a backup (on the currently installed R5D1) on the current machine, then moving the drive to the new machine and doing an Auto-Upgrade with R5E50. Is that a good idea? I'll be trying this out over the weekend, as I finally got a better machine (1.2GHz w/ 512megs, rather than the 500 MHz with 192megs). I'll post my results. - Anthony |

It does not matter what machine you do the mythbackup on. Just as long as you have a valid backup before you do the auto install in the new system. |
