autoinstall suggests that I modify the nvidia driver AFTER X starts up.
That won't work for me, I need to change the driver prior to loading the graphical environ.

(I've done this in redhat by booting to console and running:
sh <nvidia driver>

I also tried dropping to a prompt from the Knopp install, but the system is read only.

Any suggestions?
Thanks a bunch!

I have gotten around this by switching to a text console to do the nVidia driver installation. The text console displays clearly on video out even with
the standard driver installed by KM.

You can switch to this by pressing Ctrl -Alt-F1.

Hope this helps. Good Luck.

Can someone post their X config file for this card? I have the Asus 5200 and I am only getting black and white out my svideo. My dual boot into XP has color. As does my Myth boot. The boot is the wierd one. I get the red boot choice menu, and a couple of other colored messages, but when X starts to load, it all goes B&W.

Thanks!

nVidia Driver Installation Guide:
The nVidia drivers have become a lot easier to install over the years. In a few short steps you can be up and running.

Press Crtl+Alt+F1 to get to the command line. If a login prompt is present, login as root.

Run the follow commands:
su
(enter your root password, if needed)
export IGNORE_CC_MISMATCH=1
/etc/init.d/gdm stop
wget http://download.nvidia.com/XFree86/Linu ... 6-pkg2.run
sh 1.0-4496/NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-4496-pkg2.run
(Accept the Agreement, Select No)
(Once your back to the command line continue)
vim /etc/X11/XF86Config-4
(Press Insert to edit the file)
(Change Load "GLcore" to # Load "GLcore")
(Add the line Load "v4l")(Find a line that starts with Driver. Next to it is the name of your current video driver surrounded by two quotes. Change the name of the driver to nvidia. So the line should read Driver "nvidia")
(Your almost done!)
(Type Esc and then :w! and then enter)
(You may then exit with :q)

/etc/init.d/gdm start

You should now see an nVidia splash screen. MythTV should load automatically shortly after.

Hope this was helpful. If there are any questions let me know.

Thanks for the steps. Turns out my problem was a cable issue. For whatever reason, my Monster S-Video hooked up to my VCR was not working period and I had moved to the S-Video to RCA cable that came with either my 350 or the 5200 (I was a kid opening all the packages and never kept track of anything...)

Anyways, switching my output, for now, to "Composite", from "SVideo" did the trick.

I will get up-to-date with those drivers though.
