everyone get into the 'way back' machine.....remember R5A16, that is what I am running.

I added several other php apps to my mythbox (coppermine, WebCalendar) so I have been anchored in time, unable to upgrade.

Well, I have moved the non-myth apps to a separate server and now Im FINALLY ready to move forward.

Do I have any chance of successfully upgrading from R5A16 to R5E50 or should I save off /myth/video /myth/music and reinstall?

I have several other things to backup/restore even w/ a fresh install... lircd.conf, keybinding table data...anything else?

does mythstreamtv work following a fresh install?

Make a really good backup (see the upgrade hints thread) and try it. If it doesn't work you may need to step up by stages to say R5C7 and then to R5E50. We've had people upgrade from some pretty old versions successfully so it's definitely worth "going for it" once you've got the backup in hand.

OBTW - I'm pretty sure that the /cache partition went away somewhere in that time frame so you'll probably want to play some disk partition games.

Hi,

The "way back" machine stores the recordings as .nuv. If you have any recordings to save be sure to cp -H /myth/pretty/<recording.nuv> to /myth/video/ Also cp the matching .nuv.png to the /myth/video/.covers so you have a snapshot to match (may want to change the name :) along the way.

Not necessary.

I've still got some old .nuv recordings and they continue to work without a hitch. The DB knows the full file name. New PVR recortdings show up as .mpg but it doesn't affect the old ones.

For now. See the upgrade hints for details.

BTW - If you're comparing across versions please note that with R5E50 I tried especially hard to get all the know issues and fixes into the hints, so what looks like a long list actually represents more gathering and documentation than in previous releases.

I don't doubt you, but I lost all of mine ... not the files, just the pretty links. guess the mileage varies :)

Huhn? The pretty links get recreated on a daily basis...
Code:
root@black2:~/scripts/backup# ls -al /myth/pretty/The\ Venus\ Wars\ -\ 2005-10-04\,\ 8-00\ PM.nuv
lrwxrwxrwx 1 mythtv mythtv 47 Apr 14 11:17 /myth/pretty/The Venus Wars - 2005-10-04, 8-00 PM.nuv -> /myth/tv/1098_20051004200000_20051004220000.nuv

I just wait for the gap between seasons and then do a full wipe and reinstall. That way it's easier on the wife and the wife approval factor is higher. There is one coming up in another few weeks, if you can wait the newest version of km will be out.
