I upgraded using the .15 debs following the instructions here. Everything seemed to go ok, but I could have missed something.

I get the following error whenever the frontend attempts to connect to the backend:
Quote:
The server uses network protocol version 1,
but this client only understands version 8,
Make sure you are running compatible versions of the backend and frontend.

Reboot. Odd I got that on one system after updating and didn't on another. Rebooting fixed it(restarting the backend didn't) and have not had the problem again.

Thanks it worked.... I knew I should have rebooted :).

One more question. I tried the last commands from the instructions and the mythtv-backend file did not exist in either case:
If you followed my instructions rm -fr /usr/local/bin/mythtv-backend
as root cp ~/mythtv-backend /etc/cron.daily/

Did I miss something in this case?

If you did the patch to get XMLTV working when Zap2it changed and didn't follow my directions then yest you missed something. The file should look like this:
Code:
#!/bin/sh

su mythtv -c "mythfilldatabase --quiet"

Ah ok, thats what it is then. I never patched XMLTV when the problem occurred. I waited until you let out the debs, and performed the steps to migrate from XMLTV to directdata link. I retrieved all the program information and the channel icons are fine.

Should I create the file you specified or does the new datadirect crap perform some magic nightly to get my tv listings.

I got that error too; the reboot fixed it.

Thanks again for all your hard work :)

Having the version 8 <-> 1 problem but a reboot did not fix it. Mythweb doesn't work for this reason as well.

Also, on the frontend, MythNews and MythWeather report an error saying that they were compiled against libmyth-0.15 but I'm running libmyth-0.14 and that I should recompile News + Weather (I'm paraphrasing). Also Music, Images and Video seem broken; when selected from main menu nothing happens. All TV functions (schedule, live TV, watch recordings) are working as normal.

I'm running an old release of KnoppMyth that has been upgraded manually (don't remember the release, but kernel version is 2.4.21-xfs if that helps). All upgrades to myth debs so far have been smooth.

Any ideas? Willing to try and recompile against 0.14, but not sure how to build deb's from vanilla source (I usually use rpm based distro's; please don't shoot me). Is upgrading to latest release my only recourse?

Thanks to cesman for building the debs.

You have different versions installed. You have some 0.14 debs installed(your modules) and 0.15.x(mythtv). You cannot use 0.14 modules with 0.15.x. dpkg -l | grep myth will tell you have you have installed. dpkg -r to remove what you want and apt-get install to install the new.

Thanks - as usual the problem was between the keyboard and the chair; I didn't realize that the mythtv-i686-lirc was the main mythtv package; I assumed it was lirc (which I don't care about as I have no remote) specific. Installed it and all is well. Thanks again for your help and the terrific packages you put together.
