Post subject:  Installing Knoppmyth for the very first time

I burned two seperate disks in case one of them was bad. I stick the disk in the cdrom and reboot. I get to the screen where you hit enter to boot. it goes through a bunch of lines that read "Cloop: read error at pos 360138281 in file /cdrom/Knoppix/knoppix 7816 buytes lost" then it says something else but it went by too fast. Then it ends on "Init: panic: segmentation violation at 0x804e241! Sleeping for 30 seconds" and thats it! It will run that last like maybe 10 times then the screen goes blank. I was under the impression it was much easier to install than this. Since I dont know what I am doing I cant very well troubleshoot. can anyone offer any suggestions on what might be wrong? Thanks in advance

Hi,

Try a different cdrom, from the clues it appears to have trouble reading it. Double check that it is also you hdc

Hi,
Start from scratch, tell us about the hardware you are playing with as there are certain minimums.

Also the harddrive needs to be seen as first primary 1 (hda) and the cd needs to be seen as secondary 1 (hdc) Move cables around and set jumpers (as master) till that is obtained. You may have to use (borrow) a different cd drive to install because of media compatability.

The Knoppmyth install is probably about one of the easiest available and gives you a multimedia device as a fringe benefit. (all depends on the view point) Go wild, install a tuner card, read the wiki, glance over tjc's Hints&Tips, maybe a couple of searchs of the forum for a few anwsers and your KM machine should come up to also serve up a little tv viewing :)
