I am interested in installing knoppmyth on an external HD. I am new to linux and before I make the transition I want to play with it in a safe environment. I understand that I could run directly from CD. I was curious if I could run the OS from an external and until I am comfortable with the software.

Hi,

Depending on your mother board to be able to boot external devices, I have been able, using a Dell, to install Ubuntu (and boot into it on usb) been able to install KM and start to boot into it (usb) There are some tweaks needed to the /boot/initrd.gz as the modules needed for usb aren't available until the kernel is loaded and I haven't figured out how to build those into the initrd.gz yet.

I think a process was posted, once, where someone did something similar but I have not located it yet ~6-8 months ago.

Mike
