I have a crappy old monitor that I'm using to do a test install. The rest of the system is decent. I can't read what the screen says however because the crappy old monitor can't handle the installer's default resolution. I've tried some of the boot options (pressing F3) but still no luck. Can anyone suggest something?

Did you try the "tv" option? That limits the resolutions used to 800x600 and 640x480 which even a "crappy old monitor" should be able to do.

Or with the Knoppix roots of this thing, instead of TV, you could specify the resolution and the refresh rate you know the monitor works with.

At the Knoppmyth spash screen you can see these extra possible parameters by pressing [F3].

Code:
knoppmyth screen=800x600 xvrefresh=72
or
knoppmyth screen=640x480 xvrefresh=60

Hi,

Often the older monitors can only do the 60htz, some lcd's also suffer. I would try the 800x600 with the 60 htz.
