Post subject:  Problem with R4V4 iso?

Well.. this is the stupidest post ever, but I'm out of ideas.

I've been running off the original R4 version of KnoppMyth for some time now with great results. However, recently I had noticed that my tv listings weren't being updated. I also took the dangerous road some time ago of installing apt-get and i've modified packages that I probably shouldnt have.

So I decided to upgrade to R4V4.

I've downloaded and burned the R4V4 iso several times all with the same result. The cd drive spins up, blinks for a while, then gives up when i put it in the drive. I can't get the system to boot up off the drive at all. Now at this point, you must be thinking-- "duh.. you messed something up." And thats what I thought, however, my system runs other cds just fine- including booting up off the R4 cd i have from my original installation.

I've downloaded the iso several times, burned new cds off of different burners and computers, swapped the cd drive for another one and moved it from the secondary controller to the primary.. but no change.

Like I said, I can put the original R4 installation cd in the drive and my Athlon-based Shuttle system boots up great. Something about the new R4V4 iso doesn't work with my system though.

Any ideas?

Did you verify the md5sum before burning?

Post subject:  Figured it out

Well.. i did verify the MD5SUM before burning.. however that wasnt the problem.

For whatever reason, swapping between my DVD-RW and a record CD rom drive didn't get the cd to boot. But when I put in another CD-RW drive it worked fine. I'm guessing I forgot to finalize the cd when I burned the image, because some older CD drives wont read unfinalized discs.

I had a similar problem. I downloaded the iso and ran md5sum and everything came out fine. However, the first time I tried to boot off of the cd it just sat there for a while and then boot normally from the hard disk. Fortunately for me all I had to do was reboot and it booted from the cd the second time.

I had similar issues checksum was valid but the image written has issues...This happend for three separate burns

I had to decrease the speed of the writer...to be safe I used the slowest speed, this created a valid, bootable disk
