First off, the R5F27 auto update on my R5D1 system went very well (kudos to cesman and all who participated).

I do have one problem: my PCI soundcard does not get detected without me running:
Code:
# alsaconf
on each boot :( The onboard audio broke a while ago and I had to purchase a separate soundcard which is the problem. I have the onboard audio disabled in the BIOS, but I suspect KM is defaulting to it.

Alsaconf detects my Yamaha DS-1 that I select and when the script finishes. It asked me if I want to change the mod files to reflect it to which I answer yes. After the script finishes, I can hear audio in mythtv just fine. What sucks is that I have to repeat this process when ever I reboot the box :(

I remember having to edit my .fvwm/.fvwm2rc on my R5D1 release and I had to comment out "exec KnoppMyth-run" and replace it with "exec mythfrontend" to fix this before... I cannot find that file on R5F27 to apply the same fix.

Ideas from the group are welcomed :)

Try
Code:
alsactl store
I picked this up searching the forum, never had to use it myself, YMMV.

A small update: in my original post I said

I have since remembered that the newer builds of KM use fluxbox so it becomes:

/home/mythtv/.fluxbox/apps,

I removed the line that reads:[startup] {KnoppMyth-run}

and replace it with: [startup] {mythfrontend}

But that didn't change anything.

@mlbuser - I gave that command a try after running alsaconf, but as I understand it, alsactl store only saves the mixer volume levels... I think my problem is related to the driver.

After running alsamixer and trying the alsactl store command, I rebooted to test it, there was no change in the behavior: sound still doesn't work in mythtv until I run the alsaconf, select the right card and finish:

Other ideas? :)

I think I solved it. I dunno if it was the BIOS reset to defaults and then re-disabling the onboard audio chip, or the fact that I commented out the snd_intel18x0 line in my /etc/modules but my pci snd card works on a cold boot now without my intervention. That coupled with marc.aronson's new driver for my little gray remote has my backend box back up to 100 % :)

Acknowledgments again to cesman, tjc, marc.aronson, and the rest of the KM team, and contributing members in these forums. KM still reigns supreme in my book for a mythtv-distro!
