I have used Knoppmyth before and I recently had R4V2 working with a dwl-122 flawlessly. I installed and configured wlan myself and everything worked great. Well I just got a new drive and I thought I would start from scratch with R4V4. Well I noticed that my dwl-122 was detected by Knoppmyth and I entered the appropriate parameters for the wireless card including my WEP key and it doesn't work. So I started poking around and I looked at /etc/modules.conf and commented out prism2_pci and uncommented prism2_usb. I noticed in /etc/pcmcia/wireless.opts is where the ssid, channel and wep key are being stored. When I used wlan before these parameters were stored in /etc/wlan/wlancfg-<myssid>. Am I missing something here or could someone give me some pointers on how I can get this working? /etc/wlan/wlan.conf looks good and so does /etc/network/interfaces. I looked in /var/log/messages and the error I see is linkstatus=ASSOCFAIL or something similar. If anyone could offer any advice I would appreciate it. Thanks.

try putting it in the /etc/network/interfaces
like this

interface eth0(or wlan0 whichever you use) inet dhcp
wireless_essid networkname
wireless_mode managed
wireless_key thelonghexkeygoeshere

Thanks for the tip! I still had trouble getting wep working so I did some research and it looks like I may may need to do something like this since I am using wlan0. Any comments?

wireless_enc on
wlan_ng_key0 01:23:45:67:89:ab:cd:ef:01:23:45:67:89

well if you are talking about in the /etc/network/interfaces file no neither one of those commands is valid. the only valid comand for wep in that file is wireless_key longhexkeylike32charactershere

if your wap is one of the ones that uses a password to generate the key you cannot use the password. you have to use the hex key.

Okay I guess I didn't do enough research to realize I couldn't use those commands in /etc/network/interfaces. I am using the full hex key with wireless_key. Should I be using the colons on the key? I will give it another try tonight and see if I have any luck. Thanks for the help.

well I'm not sure what wap you are using, but in my experience a wep hex key does not have colons the only thing that has colons usually is a mac address and that's not what we are talking about here.

Yes I know it's not a MAC address but when I used wlan before I needed the colons so I will give that a try first.
