Post subject:  disks read-only (can't partition) on Manual Install

When I tried a manual install, selected "partition," both drives showed up. However, when attempting to partition either of these drives, I get these two messages:

"Opened disk read-only - you have no permission to write"

Then, I hit enter, and:

"FATAL ERROR: Cannot get disk size"

I noticed there was another thread that mentioned that this was happening to someone using SATA drives, but I am using IDE drives. Particularly:

40-GB WD
160-GB Maxtor

Would the solution(s) presented in the other thread apply to me too?

Also, is there a way to run mythsetup AFTER the initial config? I used to have this on a gentoo box and did that all the time, but I don't know how to do it under knoppmyth.

Thanks,
Steve

I had the same problem. Can you describe more detailed your hardware, especially which kind of IDE controllers and what is attached.

Using an Epox 4PEA+ mainboard (Intel 845PE) with onboard HighPoint HPT372 IDE raid controller:

ide1,2 Intel Chipset
ide1 master DVD-ROM, slave CD-Writer
ide2 master DVD-Writer, slave ZIP drive

ide3,4 Highpoint Controller (can only handle Harddrives... bad)
ide3 master Maxter 120 GB, slave none
ide4 master IBM DTLA 60 GB, slave IBM DTTA 10 GB

I tried to select to IBM DTTA in manual install, but disk was readonly.
When i changed whole cable wiring for getting disk as ide1 master, everything worked fine for auto install. But this is not a good solution.

(After changing cable wiring back, editing GRUB (from Suse Linux install, editing fstab for new drive assignments, Myth works, but can not access CD/DVD drives. I'm relativly new to Linux, maybe there is just a simple solution for editing a file i do not know yet)

not sure about the harddrive thing, because I always use a single harddrive on primary master, but I seem to remember somewhere that you either have to use cable select or can't use cable select when you have wd and maxtor drives together.

but as for running mythtv setup after install the command is mythtv-setup

The WD drives seem to really want to be jumpered for cable select at least with certain Mobo chipsets. Other drives and chipsets will go off in their own corners in a big sulk and refuse to speak to each other if you set the drive for cable select...
