Hi all,

after spending quite a lot of hours in trying to get my audio up&running i´m really stuck now - looking for some help (not the final answer, though) on how to continue.

I´m using the latest version of KnoppMyth on an Asrock K8NF6G which includes the ACL861VD / ALC883 audio chipset onboard. Chipset is Nvidia GeForce 6100 / nForce 405.

Video is a Hauppauge PVR350.

As soon as I enable audio within the BIOS the system gets stuck during booting, TV out works well, however stops when displaying:

TV out:

Knoppmyth found Internext compression...

VGA:

ivtvfb: Framebuffer at ..., mapped..., size 1665k

When pressing CTRL+C I´ll get:

loading modules: usbcore ...

and that´s it - the system is stuck.

I´ve tried to install the latest ALSA driver from Realtek, however this didn´t change anything (obviously, as sound had been disabled within the BIOS).

When running alsaconf it gives me a MPU sound card - however i suppose it should be something related to the NVidia chipset ?

Browsing the web, I found out that upgrading the kernel might be a good idea (?).

Anyone having this board in operation, successfully enabling sound output ?
Any hint or clue which direction to go and which things to look for next ?

Thanks in advance,
Marco

you should be using the hda-intel

I think that hang on boot with sound enabled in the bios is being caused by kernel panic with old version alsa driver.. it was with me anyway. make sure you don't have old versions of the hda-intel module around under /lib/modules after install the new ones.

grab alsa-driver-1.0.15 from the alsa website..

See the below link.

Thanks for your swift reply - actually I´ve been able to get sound up & running through upgrading the kernel and ALSA drivers (empowered through your reply to spend some more time following this direction).

Thx :-) !!
