My remote Frontend won't show Live TV or recordings. I don't think the frontend has difficulty connecting to the backend server: Quote: 2007-11-06 15:24:20.754 Connecting to backend server: 192.168.2.102:6543 (try 1 of 5) 2007-11-06 15:24:20.758 Using protocol version 31 However; it seems to have trouble accessing the files: Quote: 2007-11-06 15:24:20.767 TV: Attempting to change from None to WatchingLiveTV 2007-11-06 15:24:20.773 Using protocol version 31 2007-11-06 15:24:27.578 RingBuf(/myth/tv/1004_20071106152420.mpg): Could not open /myth/tv/1004_20071106152420.mpg. 2007-11-06 15:24:27.632 NVP::OpenFile(): Error, file not found: /myth/tv/1004_20071106152420.mpg 2007-11-06 15:24:27.634 TV Error: StartPlayer(): NVP is not playing after 20000 msec 2007-11-06 15:24:27.780 TV Error: LiveTV not successfully started Destroying SipFsm object The permissions for the directories /myth and /tv are all RWX RWX RX, so access to the files themselves should not be the trouble. I followed the wiki's FrontendOnlyInstall directions. http://knoppmythwiki.org/index.php?page=FrontendOnlyInstall I think the problem originates from these lines of the installation HOWTO: Quote: As of R5E50 this can be found in:
nano /etc/mythtv/mysql.txt Change the word 'localhost' on the first line of the file to the name or IP number of the backend system you plan on using (setting called 'DBHostName'). Also, if 'LocalHostName' is not something unique, change it to something that is. Save the file and exit your editor (in nano, Ctrl-X, Y and Enter to save and exit). /etc/mythtv/mysql.txt no longer has the "LocalHostName" entry. Thus I think the problem is centered on MySQL and the local host name issue. I am using R5F27, and have used this HOWTO to successfully connect the frontend system to the backend using earlier editions R5F1 and before (I believe). |

I can run the frontend from the CD, so the problem is not on the physical layer. |

Have you commented out (or changed) the "bind-address" line in my.cnf on the backend? See 6.4 under Known Changes here http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=16384
EDIT: Also, be sure "Host name:" in the first page under Utilities/Setup -> Setup -> General is set to your backend's IP address /EDIT |

I think this is what did it. I noticed that the LiveCD had "mythfe1" custom Identifier spot. So, I gave it a try in the setup of my Remote Frontend. Poof! it seemed to work after that. I also tinkered with a few other things at the same time, so thanks for the confirmation of what actually "did the trick." |
