Post subject:  partitions and wireless networking

Hello --

First, let me thank you, knoppmyth has certainly made it easier to get myth tv up and running.

I have playing around with different configs for my server and have run up a few questions ...

1) I would like to create knoppmyth using 2 hard drives, I could not find a way to do this using auto_install or manual install, is this possible?

2) I would love to be able to use a wireless network card, it's a standard dlink, and it's found and configured during knoppix's boot, however after the install, and when knoppmyth go's into it network config routine it's missing. How can I fix this?

Thanks

Tony

Of course :D
Just add an entry in /etc/fstab after you created it via fdisk and mk2fs
You also might use a "normal" vfat drive from a M$-PC (but I didn't find a way for reading NTFS  )

Do you find it in /proc/devices? Perhaps you have to re-install the driver after KnoppMyth installation

I did get the wireless dlink card working ... it was simply a matter of linking init.d/pcmcia into the appropriate rc directories ....

As far as the partitioning issue, I was kinda hoping that I could choose the partitions on the installation screen. I have a 20GB, and 140 GB drive, and I wanted to set the 140GB drive to be mounted as /myth during the install.

In the end, I just allowed to install on the 20GB drive and made the changes after the install.

I think I'm having a similar problem getting my Orinoco wireless PCMCIA card working. Would you please explain exactly what you mean by the above quote? How do you link init.d/pcmcia (its a directory in my setup - which file?) and what do you mean by "rc" directories?

OK, now I see that the wireless card LED has a status light that is lit. What do I need to do to get it configured?

Also can you tell me if KnoppMyth has the wireless tools package? If so where can it be found?

<bump> I have a Orinoco gold card and would like to get it working - any step-by-step instructions would be very useful to me.

Well knoppmyth should have the wireless tools package. if you search for wireless networking you should see how to do the configuration if you have to put in ssid or wep key. orinoco gold cards I believe are based on the prism chipset and should be functional "out of the box"(unless you need ssid or wep) unless they are pcmcia and then should just need the above update-rc command. netcardconfig should set it up just fine if you do not need ssid/wep.

Wow - that was easy, thanks!

Could you tell me how to configure the PCMCIA card to only use my SSID, there are several in the building and I don't want to be on someone elses network.

Like X stated, search the forum. This has been covered before...

OK - I have put in my interfaces file:

Code:
iface eth1 inet dhcp
     wireless_essid room_101
     wireless_mode  managed

And when I reboot it still logs into next doors available network instead of mine.

Surely it should not fetch DHCP from another router if I have specified an SSID on my network.
