Post subject:  Installation Freezing

Hello everyone. I recently tried to install KnoppMyth on a spare PC. But every time ive tried. The installation freezes at a detection phase. Now. I know its not Myth because I tried Mythbuntu as well and it also froze. Both CD's are fine. I checked the Integrity

My specs are

2.4 Cel
1GB Ram
ASrock mATX Mobo
GeForce TNT2 64MB Video Card

Thanks In Advanced

Hi Chris,

It would help greatly if you could give more information. Do you have a TV card? It's not in your h/w list. The exact line before the freeze would be most helpful, but the missing hardware list is also essential.

No TV card.. It only going to be used as a media server for right now.. I had too much trouble with Tversity

As for the line its freezing at. it WAS Starting udev hot-plug hardware detection. But I just went to find that and now its made it a bit farther.

So far. Its maged to udevd-event 2404. And it looks to have frozen yet again

Do you have a USB keyboard plugged in? Any USB devices at all?

Really strange. Udev is a USB thing, so if you have no USB devices and it's still freezing at USB I'd have to think that it doesn't like your USB chipset.

Could be wrong, of course. Try booting with no USB detection. If it still freezes, try with no detection. It could be a very kernel version specific problem.

Also try some of the other boot time "cheat codes" like "noscsi". Remember it might actually be freezing as a result of the thing before or the thing after the last message printed.

It can also pay to check for BIOS updates. They often help with issues like this.

Hi,

If I read this correctly, it is freezing on the first boot from the cd and not the second boot after you remove the cd from an install?

Version you are trying to install? The TNT2 64 is an "older" video card [Riva]? and I have had bumps with mine. Usually I can do tv and then it grinds past. Take anything you don't need out, swap the nic card if you can, run memory test, check cables and drive jumpers. It is most likely a hardware issue.

You can aways add cards once you are up.

Post subject:  Similar issue

Hi There, I had a similar issue with my second front end, it ended up being a bad sector on the hard disk (I tried Myth, it would not install) then I tried another Linux version and it would not install).

I got another 40 gig drive from the pile in my basement and set the jumper to be "Primary" instead of cable select. Then the install went just fine on Myth. Still not sure what was wrong with the drive, just works now.
