Hi,

I changed the hostname of my PC because I had a problem with DHCP (my DHCP server would not give the machine an IP because it had dots (.) in the name).

Now I cannot connect to the master back-end anymore. I allready found the following errors:
- In the front-end: Could not connect to the master backend server -- is it running? ...
- In mythweb: Unable to connect to mythbackend, is it running?
and when starting apache:
- Could not determine the server's fully qualified domain name, using 127.0.0.1.......

I ran mythtv-setup and entered the IP of the machine twice on the first screen, but that didn't work.

Any ideas?

Thnx,
Michael

I found in this thread that the hostname should really be fully qualified.

http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic. ... ght=apache

But this conflicts with my router that only want's to assign an IP address if a name without dots (.) is entered.

Ideas welcome.

Michael

You don't need a FQDN. By changing the domain name on the backend, you'll have to reconfigure everything and you'll lose the records in the db(if I remember correctly). Have you taken a look at the log to see why it would start?

I renamed the host back to the old name, and switched to a static IP for now. On the myth site is a piece about renaming the hostname and unloading and loading the database.

I renaming it back because I am planning for a full re-install when I'm done experimenting and moving the box to the living room. Apart from that I was unsure about hostname settings in /etc/hostname, /etc/hosts, and mysql.conf/txt. So to be safe I renamed it back.

Thanx,
Michael
