Just tried to upgrade to R5.5 and X will not start with the mga driver in xorg.conf, starts OK with vesa driver though. Anyone had any joy in getting any version of matrox drivers to install/load/run with R5.5?

Jim.

I'm afraid you're way out on the tail of the distribution there all by yourself.

Tell me about it, it's a lonely old place running KM on old junk :D . Thanks to you guys I've had some great results over the last couple of years & some fun learning Linux too. I'm not going to be beaten by some stupid driver issues either  . Well maybe this time......

I'm having the same issue right now too. Bummer. I have 2 or 3 Matrox cards just sitting around that I was really hoping to use.

I got all excited when I saw there were "unofficial" Matrox drivers available (see http://forum.tuxx-home.at/viewtopic.php?t=153), but I tried installing the latest ones and it didn't seem to stop the respawn problem. I'm about ready to give up...

If anyone has any other ideas I'm very open to them.

I just edited my xorg.conf file as suggested by mythtv wiki page [1] and instead of mga driver put fbdev, that worked for me.
